Yeah, I felt the same as Xlasherr.

It was awkward to see them screaming for Menma - but that immediacy made it feel all the more genuine for me and topped off some excellent VA work.
Decent show, but ridiculous ending.
I found some of the character personalities a bit difficult to swallow, but good short story.

I think their reaction was to be expected...

Spoiler:
What happened to Menma obviously had a great effect on all of their lives and what paths they all took - which evidently involved (almost) total separation of the group and it's reasonable to assume before that day they got along very well with each other - as you do when you're young.

The effect her passing had and the following consequences when they started getting together again led the emotional attachment they had to Menma individually to increase. They already felt individually responsible in some way for causing her death.

Finally letting her go led to an immense emotional response... this included the alleviation of some of the guilt they felt as well as the emotional debris of finally being honest with each other regarding the feelings they had for one another.

Also, they knew she was there but they couldn't see her - they were probably desperate to make sure she heard them.

I know it's hard to say if that would be the response humans would have - the idea of her being there in some way was ridiculous in itself but I don't think their reaction was that over the top given the situation.

I pretty much gathered something like that.

I don't think everything can simply be justified over the death of a friend.
Yes, it's normal to mourn for them after a while, but if a few years down the track, it's typically considered a mental disorder.  Of course, they met the dead person again, so there's a bit of leeway here.
If you meet a childhood friend again after many years, you don't suddenly revert to childish behaviour.
I really still can't see the justification of how anyone normal would do something like they did in the last episode (and disregarding their own personalities).  I can understand everything in the first 10 - that seems alright.
2011 was a nice year for anime

Thanks Eku - actually cheers me up. Reminds me last year wasn't too bad.

Ano Hana
Nichijou
Bakuman
Mirai Nikki
Madoka Magica
Usagi Drop

Great stuff.
Supposedly, 2ch's top 10 anime of 2011 (which I found on some random blog).

10位 ペルソナ4 (Persona 4)
9位 TIGER & BUNNY
8位 境界線上のホライゾン (Horizon)
7位 あの日見た花の名前を僕達はまだ知らない (AnoHana)
6位 THE IDOLM@STER
5位 うさぎドロップ (Usagi Drop)
4位 輪るピングドラム (PenguinDrum)
3位 Fate/Zero
2位 STEINS;GATE
1位 魔法少女まどか☆マギカ (Madoka)

Listed in reverse order (which I'm sure you figured out already).  I watched the top 3 (that means the 3 at the bottom).

Horizon?  Wtf?  I watched 1 episode of that and it's really dumb.  Lol, Fate/Zero is the 3rd best anime when it's not even finished, I predict when it finishes it'll top 5 all the online rating lists (like anidb and stuff).  PenguinDrumTIGER & BUNNY sounds like a troll show.

Also, here's a massively long Mashiro Iro Symphony FAQ for people who watched that show and have questions.  http://www.relentlessness.com/blog/2011/...e-viewers/
Troll show? What makes you think that?  I thought it was quite nice. Unless you hate symbolism.

Oh shit, wrong show.  Tiger and Bunny.

I mean, the name of the show, and look at the cover...
