one day, when computers are cheap and pumping some serious numbers; until then the average user needs the 200$ ~ 300$ gaming console

Computers aren't that expensive, especially if you factor in the cost of the console games. I mean when the consoles just came out, they were like $600US or something.

As for numbers, if you haven't realized, the current computer's CPU and GPU are WAY more beast than the PS3 or the 360. In terms of numbers, a core i7 will rip up the 360's processor many many times over, and I'm pretty sure a high end current CPU will also completely rape the 360's "old technology" GPU.

It's just that computers aren't as optimized for playing games as consoles are.

Indeed, what i meant to say that computers need to come down in price and handle games at a good level. Failure to do so is no excuse for how powerful it is, it's just the fact that it needs to do it. Therefore "optimized" poo poo cpu's are what makes a console; it's basically a cheap computer that handles a certain multimedia.

Seriously? A core i7 is probably expensive (haven't done my homework exactly); so it wouldn't be great price value if you paid about 800$ for a decent computer to run street fighter IV.

Computers need to be cheap and powerful; like the ion platform that came out, it gives 400$ netbook's the power of a 9400M GPU
MysterySword Wrote:The PS3 needs to get hacked. I mean, it's not like many people are gonna pirate a game over 8.4GB. You'd have to have room on the PS3 HDD or a Blu-ray disc burner. Downloading something over 8.4GB would be quite annoying as well. Just think of the 40-50GB MGS4 game...

I suppose peoples could rip stuff out of it. Like alternative Sound Tracks

so i take it you didnt read my post. o well don't let me talk you out of a choice but the 360 has less features than the ps3. how can it be better for me? i know for a fact it isn't :P. anyway i know fanboys will argue for it and they can have their paid for bannable internet system, i for one would choose the ps3 for that reason alone.

Yeah, but you also have to factor in the fact that you would need a computer anyway, even if you never plan on playing games. So the console is more like an "extra cost", and not directly in competition to the computer. So yeah, I already have a computer, I'll use it.

And if you're a college student like me, and don't have much money, piracy saves you a lot on PC, while I would have to pay for everything if I went console.

Yes, core i7 is pretty expensive. But I think even a Q6600 would beat a console CPU in terms of raw power, and that's pretty cheap. But like you said, it's pointless comparing, because consoles are designed to play games.
