Finished Fate/Zero.

People who don't know Fate/Stay Night probably got confused as hell by the ending :(.  That's probably everyone, since unfortunately, watching the F/SN anime doesn't count as knowing F/SN since that's the Fate route while the real F/SN is the Heaven's Feel route.

It's not a prequel specifically to the F/SN anime project.  The F/SN anime isn't even made by the same people (DEEN as opposed to ufotble).  It's probably somewhat assumed that the majority of watchers probably know about F/SN (which is extremely popular in Japan).

So I don't know, if you don't F/SN, everything might feel sort of like a Darker Than Black ending to you (I mean DtB1, DtB2's ending was just like, lets make up random bullshit), you can sort of get what's going on but a lot of stuff will be unclear.  The specifics of the Grail and Angra Mainyu and whatnot is like a major plot point of the Heaven's Feel route (and Fate/ Hollow Ataraxia).  EDIT: Wait, the F/SN anime might have touched on it lightly(can't remember, long time ago), so it's definitely better than nothing.

Another thing is that people who don't know F/SN might go in expecting a happy ending or a conclusive ending, you get neither.  But considering the current rating on anidb is like 9.03 and is the 8th highest rated thing on MAL, people didn't completely hate the ending I guess.

Fate/Zero is something that's very strong throughout, and not something that relies on the ending to win points though.



Now ufotable could like re-animate Fate/Stay Night, like how Kanon was redone.  Heaven's Feel instead of Fate this time.

It's not unheard of to have other studios animating prequel/sequel anime projects. I assumed it was a prequel because AniDB mentions it as such.

Sounds like it would be much more enjoyable after checking out the VN. Sort of voids the idea of an "adaptation" though - all the bases should be checked so it can work as an independent work. Though, perhaps they never intended it to.

It does work as an individual work, considering the ratings, and only a very small percentage of people the western anime community have played the F/SN VN.  The ending might confuse you a bit is all.

Most of the episodes are pretty good.

F/SN anime didn't mention angra manyu at all if I recall correctly.
they just mentioned the holy grail is not holy, but evil or whatsoever.
