Wait, you actually like Shirou?  I find Shirou to be annoying/retarded as hell, wanting to save everyone, telling Saber not to fight, and everything else.  Only people worse than Shirou are Touma from Index and Shu from Guilty Crown.  Shirou does become better in the other 2 routes of F/SN, but that's not in the anime.

One of the reasons why I like F/Z more than F/SN is because it doesn't have kids (Shirou, Shinji) derping around.  But I guess in the first season of F/Z not all that much happened, and 90% of the fights are skirmishes that don't fight to completion, so I can understand why people don't like it.

That explains it right there. I quite enjoy Touma in Index.

Then you'll love Shu from Guilty Crown, he's equally retarded and annoying as Touma from Index

I've started Guilty, Shu just annoys the hell out of me.
I still much prefer characters like Takuto from Star Driver.
But Touma has character development around him, which is hard to do right. The first season he was just coming into his abilities and was covered cowardice, Second season he lets out more of what he is capable of and thus grows as a character.
