I can see it just fine.
Must be because it's already cached into my browser.

Watched Hoshi o Ou Kodomo (Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below) tonight.
Still need to make up my mind about it but one thing is certain - Makoto Shinkai lets loose on the fantasy genre he taps with Hoshi. The animation feels a lot like 5cm/s in style but going into different areas 5cm/s didn't explore kept it fresh - and by going into these fresh areas show just how beautiful animation can be - I'd go as far to say it's a great accomplishment by Shinkai and Comix Wave - if only as a demonstration to how animation can be so breathtaking.
There was a story to it too - however - and a rather deep one as well. It had themes I could never have guessed were coming and breached the "childrens film" line a few times with the small amount of but nevertheless surprising violence and intensity.
It takes 2 hours for the tale to be told and I'm not sure if it's a weakness.. I think back now on the film wondering what it was lacking exactly but I wonder if the story was told as effectively as it could have in 2 hours. Strange perhaps because despite the subjects it touched upon (life and death, most specifically) it's importance as a story didn't resonate with me as much as 5cm/s did. I do realize it is fantasy - but the message - if any - was relatively vague and the story overall lacking an amount of depth I crave in a film.
This in mind however... I won't be harsh to judge and will re-watching it sometime in the near future to score it.
Certainly impressive - an absolute must for those who crave something stunning to watch. I will say though - if my feelings and first impressions are correct - the story will feel somewhat lacking so if you're looking for a complex, deep and detailed story look elsewhere.
I've been meaning to watch that. I downloaded it in 1080p, but my laptop kind of stutters when playing back 1080p, so I'll probably redownload it in 720p and watch it then.
I have been looking forward to it since I saw it mentioned on wikipedia. Makoto Shinkai is a genius.

Well it is a noticeable difference with my current laptop.
Specifically - 8 bit plays without lag and doesn't stress it too much. 10 bit causes it to overheat (especially with KaraFx, that's a killer).
Let me also mention that the HP dv7 series are well known to overheat anyway - this was not known at the time of purchase however (it was new at the time) - but 10 bit does push it harder.
I have seen others complain about 10 bit being too stressful for their machines though - they are probably just older machines.
Re CoreAVC I haven't updated it in a while actually - using ffdshow decoder atm.

I never really noticed much difference, at least for 720p 10bit (haven't downloaded any 1080p 10bit yet). Maybe because my computer's too strong, both uses less than 10% of CPU.

ffdshow is pretty good nowadays, no reason to update unless you're lagging.
