Quote:Playstation 3 fans excited about the addition of Blu-Ray 3D support in the 3.50 firmware update might be in for a little shock. In an attempt to prevent any further action from hackers Sony have disabled support for third party USB periphials on the Playstation 3. This news comes amidst warnings of counterfeit Playstation 3 wireless controllers exploding.
Sony have disabled a great number of USB devices and is warning that counterfeit and unlicensed controllers may explode.

Some members of the official playstation forum are estimating up to 75% of 3rd Party USB adapters have been blocked and are currently working through the list in an attempt to find controllers and devices that still work.

The Examiner reports that Firmware update 3.50 means a controller may now be disabled 'if it works via USB and if the product isn't licensed by Sony'.

Yeah - that is a load of poo poo.
They are just trying to block anything like PS3 Jailbreak from happening in the future.
In the meantime, millions of PS3 owners are having their console's features removed one by one...    :/
Damn. Sony is not messing around..

'Exploding Peripherals'
from the shortcircuited devices while trying to jailbreak the PS3 i guess?

You say that, but lets be honest, how many of us here have USB-based 3rd party peripherals?

(Other than the fact USB flash-drives may not be working anymore?)
also i hope they didn't removes ipod and iphone, because  i use it to put music and chocolates on my ps3
I can understand Sony wanting to fight against the hackers, but I think they're going overboard with some of their methods.
