I love to hear news like this. ATI will respond with a better card, and then NVIDIA will in turn respond with an even faster card. Competition is a great thing. Point in case: Windows basically has no competition so it if full of bugs and poorly-coded.

what about mac os

Mac and Linux have such a small market share that they're really no competition. Microsoft used to threaten to pull support for PC makers like Dell and HP if they offered alternate OS's like Linux. Doing things like that, they have a stranglehold on the OS market.

If either OS were a viable option, they would cause prices to drop, better features to be developed, more stable builds, etc.

Less than 10% of computer users use Apple's OS. Apple would have to have closer to a 30% market share for them to be any real threat to MS.

Don't get me wrong, I like Apple and I think they'll be my next purchase, but they just aren't any real competition for MS.

i think apple did a good job stealing former-future-vista users from microsoft and because lots of ppl who wanted vista now got a mac they will be spreading the word too
maybe another 3 years and apple will have a significant market share

also don't forget that windows may have a much larger market share in general but that may be because it is used in all offices, if you count only home use apple does have a bigger market share (not bigger than windows but bigger than when you count everything including servers)

only small businesses like architects and photographers use macs professionally
