RE: My Anime Watched, Watching and Rating list!
_VEndeTta Wrote:Its not that LP likes every anime he watches, it's simply that he only watches
anime he knows he'll like. I'm sure if he watched, I dunno, Outlaw Star or
something, then his rating would be lower, but he would never watch Outlaw
Star because he knows he won't like it. That's why every anime he's rated is
essentially in the same genre. The flaw in this strategy is that there are many anime
outside this genre that he probably would like, but he won't ever watch any of it to
find out. :@

I won't exactly say he watches only from the same genre, after all, Elfen Lied and Zero No Tsukaima are quite different....

But yeah, most are drama series and romance stories.

Guess he found what he likes. Sticking to 1 thing isn't always bad, especially if he doesn't have much time, and can only watch a limited amount of stuff, in which case sticking to 1 genre he likes would give overall higher enjoyment.

I pretty much watch all genre.

_VEndeTta Wrote:For example, I bet LP would like both Cowboy Bebop and Death Note. But wee may never know,
because he may never watch either. That's why I have so much respect for CZ, he not only
watches anime from every genre, but he'll actually COMPLETE a series that he doesn't like. That
takes significant fortitude. I know, having just forced myself to watch all of Ikkitousen.

CZ? (who?)

Ikki Tousen... Lol. I've watched that as well.

For those that are wondering what it's like, it has at least 1 pantyshot, shot of bouncing breasts, or something along these lines every minute. All the girls wear extremely short skirts and cloths that seems to rip each time a fight starts... The main charactors is a "booby bombs" (yes that's what people call her in the anime) who's as stupid as a nut and has no idea of whatever is going on (stupid chicks with big boobs...so stereotypical, cliche, whatever u would call it) ... And it's not just innocent fanservice, there's oral sex and lesbian sex in it. Yes, quite disturbing. (Don't watch it LastPerson)

Yeah, Ikki Tousen is not my favourite style of anime. But, not looking at the ridiculousness of the fanservice, the storyline atleast isn't that bad. (I'm not saying the storyline is good, I'm just saying it's not THAT bad.) Some bit's are a bit disturbing and ummm... yeah. Most anime which use fanservice use it to augment the storyline, or add commedy relief or something. This anime seems to use storyline to augment the fanservice. Yeah, it's not the best, but then there's Excel Saga...

And yeah, about the difficulty with forcing yourself to watching everything... yeah, in some cases it can be quite hard. I never managed to finish Excel Saga and Galaxy Angel (actually, there's lots of stuff i haven't finished, but the others i plan to finish). Some people say they liked Excel Saga, but I completely hate it. If i would rate it, it'll be something opposite of LP's ratings, and be around the negative 2 standard deviation area (-2 SD = bottom 2.5% of all ratings). Not that i hate commedy, i liked GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) for example, just that Excel Saga's style just didn't work with me.

Ikkitousen Dragon Destiny was decent, because its plot didn't just seem like an excuse to draw ecchi, and it
had some (minor) character development. But Ikkitousen was, not awful, just really mediocre. :(

I never finished Excel Saga because I found the Manga funnier, but the intro is one of my favorite anime songs of all time.

Assassinator Wrote:Ok, I'm not saying everything has to fit the bell-curve exactly. But don't think yours is a bit extreme? That's not a curve, it's a cliff.

The purpose of having a rating out of 10 is so there could be a bit of spread, so u could really show the differentiation between the good from the bad. If everything most things are to be rated like 9.3, then that kinda defies the purpose of being out of 10. U may as well just minus 8 from everything, and leave it out of 2... Unless if u really are that optimistic, and think everything is perfect.

Don't mistake this as me not appreciating your work. Although i think you're ratings are a bit unrealistic, I do appreciate your work nevertheless. ^.^
You can't exactly say that it has to be distributed like that.  If you do indeed like it all, it seems unreasonable to give it a low rating.
I believe in rating things relative to another, but not everyone does.

Why would you watch something that you probably wouldn't like?! O_o

Uhh, you respect someone who likes watching something they don't like?
To me, I call that stupidity.  If you don't like a show, there's really no point in watching it.  Unless you're gonna gain personal knowledge, or perhaps you feel that it may help you socialize or whatever.  But generally, it's stupid to force yourself to watch a show that you don't enjoy.
Having said that, I have seen a few shows that I didn't exactly like, but it's only cause I didn't find them horrible to the point that I couldn't stand them.

Well, I'm going off the assumption that he isn't watching it for himself, but, rather, he completes series because he felt responsible for
rating it on his thread/website. You can't give something an accurate rating if you only watch the first few episodes. I mean, look at
the first episode of Haruhi...It's awful, atrocious, and boring, and tedious. And yet the series is considered one of the best in the last
decade.

Quote:Why would you watch something that you probably wouldn't like?! O_o

I don't like romance anime, but I still enjoyed Love Hina and The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi and
Princess Mononoke, I despise Big Robot Anime, but I still loved Evangelion, Etc. There are plenty of
anime I enjoy that are in genres I despise.

Of course there's tons more that I watch the first two episodes of and immediately toss out. ;P The point
is, you need to try anime before deciding whether or not you like it. Even reading a summary isn't enough. If I'd
read the summary of Evangelion I would have been liek "Pfffffft" and never even tried it. I think the best thing
you can do is look for anime that have been given awards or rated highly on many sites and try it out.

That's certainly an interesting assumption...
I wouldn't selectively watch things for ratings, rather, I'd rate what I watch.

Depends on who you're going on.  I think there's many people who would consider otherwise.  It hasn't even appeared in the top 10 of any "major" anime rating chart I've seen.
Yes, you can't rate an anime series based on the first part of it, but you can rate an anime series without watching things from different genres. :P
Watching different genres may change your ideas, but then, there's so many other things which may as well, such as lifestyle decisions.

Ahh, you're confusing yourself.  You only watched them because you thought you might enjoy them.  If you have the thought stuck into your head that you're going to hate an anime that you're about to watch, even if it turns out good, you'll probably still find it hard to not hate it (psychology :P).
Whereas, you, being a little more open minded than that, don't judge an anime by it's genre.

"anime rating site"  - uhh, what would that be?  Some lazy old fart who sits there all day, with droopy eyes, watching anime after anime?

RE: My Anime Watched, Watching and Rating list!
I saw eternity the other night,
A ring of pure and endless light.

-Madeleine L'Engle

--------------------------------

Nicholas Was...

older than sin, and his beard could grow no whiter. He wanted to die.
The dwarfish natives of the Arctic caverns did not speak his language,
but conversed in their own, twittering tongue, conducted incomprehensible
rituals, when they were not actually working in the factories.
Once every year they forced him, sobbing and protesting, into Endless Night.
During the journey he would stand near every child in the world, leave one of
the dwarves' invisible gifts by its bedside. The children slept, frozen into time.
He envied Prometheus and Loki, Sisyphus and Judas. His punishment was harsher.
Ho.
Ho.
Ho.

-Neil Gaiman

the abyss gazes also into you.
