Actually, since One already said they are using it, I'd say Sony using DRM would make perfect sense. It would make the Developers happy (no one wants a Wii U fiasco), and for the consumers who want a high end console, it's DRM-PS4 or DRM-One. You have to get one or the other if you want a high-end system without going PC.
Flip side, you may draw more console sales from not using DRM and therefore a chance to increase game sales on the console, which would also make devs happy.
E3 should be interesting.

I'd say this is an unlikely situation.
Consoles, at least from the big companies, were never really about openness and freedom anyway. Considering how they've locked down the Vita, I wouldn't be surprised over pedantic locking of the PS4.
Wee do have some hope though with the small new entrants (Ouya and maybe the rumoured Steambox).

True. It's all baby steps though.

RE: Xbox One Thread
The used game issue won't be a problem for me, considering I haven't bought used games since 2005, and I only ever play my games on my console anyway.
I probably won't buy an Xbox One or PS4, due to lack of interest for either. The few games that were shown so far, I have absolutely no interest in them. I'll probably wait a few years before I buy either one. It's really about the games for me; I don't care about the other stuff.

RE: Xbox One Thread
Ladies and Gentlemen, wee have an answer for the Used Games/ Borrowing situation.
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/06/06/mi...ays-online
Summary:
"In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends."
"Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you."
For borrowing games:
"There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.” "loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but wee are exploring the possibilities with our partners."
And Kinect:
"Xbox One and Kinect will provide tools to put you in control of your data." "you are in control of what Kinect can see and hear. By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup"
"When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- 'Xbox On,' and you can even turn that feature off too"
"You can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission."
And the 24 Hour Connection:
“With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library."
"because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you’re not playing."
(A great example of this will be the soon to be announced Titanfall which is rumoured to be heavily reliant on Cloud Computing)

RE: Xbox One Thread
XBOX ONE:
- 24 hour DRM.
- Used game fee.
- Mandatory Kinect.
- Publishers decide whether you can trade in your games and may charge for this.
- Publishers decide whether you can give a game you own to someone for free, and this only works if they have been on your friends list for 30 days.
- You can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission.
- Microsoft may change these policies or discontinue them at any point.

RE: Xbox One Thread
^ The used game fee was debunked, it's n the hand of the publishers. Kinect mandatory to be plugged in, but not on.
