Damn it, why does Jun Maeda like making me cry so much? I swear, I cried for three straight episodes. Hey Kyon, I was planning on watching Kanon, is it more of the same? Should I wait for a while before I do? I'm pretty emotionally wrecked right now. I need some Lucky Star now.
Not sure if Lucky Star can help me escape this, every time I think of Kagami and Tsukasa I see Kyou and Ryou.

I assume you've almost finished the second season, then?
You will definitely need to switch to something more lighthearted before you start Kanon... otherwise you'll be well and truly emotionally wrecked.
Lucky you getting to see them fresh though - I don't rate them both 10 for nothing. Enjoy.

Kanon is very much similar to the 1st season of Clannad.
2nd season is quite different (after about episode 10).

I see that I'm not the only one who thought the purple hair and personalities resembled the Lucky Star twins.
I'm personally more a sucker for episode 24 of the first season of Clannad.
After you've done Clannad, Kanon, I recommend following up with Air.

Similar personalities to a degree, similar joke mechanics, similar school setting, similar moe ideas etc. But this is probably more to do with how Key does stuff.
It's different enough to be interesting, but in terms of the way things are done, quite similar.

I personally think Clannad is a better (or perhaps, more refined) version of Kanon in a sense (regardless of 2nd season). Again, similar, but they've improved on the way they've gone and done some things.

I enjoyed the second season. Just didn't really get much of a "surprise" should I say, since there's typically a slight sob story in all of Clannad's plots - you kind of expect something bad to happen around the later parts of the story. I thought episode 22 was a bit ridiculous - fortunately they do build hints up to it throughout the show, but I still thought it to be seriously out of place. I expect you and GLAG to think otherwise though.

They could have took the realistic route a la KgNE but it's all due to the VN it was adapted from I guess.
Having not played it I would like to know if there was an imperfect but still good ending in Nagisa's route.
Edit: MAJOR SPOILERS - Looks like an animated version of a realistic conclusion exists - the film. Might check it out now..
But Kanon and Clannad follow the same kind of "special" ending formula so I guess it is a Key thing. To be perfectly honest the very end of After Story didn't sit as well with me as Kanon's ending did - it came across all a bit too surreal but I considered the overall content of the series, from beginning to end to decide on its rating. I definitely consider it significantly superior to most of the anime I've seen, which is what earned it the 10 I gave it on my list - despite my honesty admitting its imperfection too - but that's the only way I can make it stand out from the 9s which I don't consider to be as good as Clannad. Perhaps I should downgrade everything to reflect this. It's worth mentioning that I don't have an issue with its indulgent side either so its probably that side to it that worked with me better than yourself. Glad to hear you enjoyed it though.
