People aren’t ready for downloads only
Quote:“The time is still not right to go download-only,”
that’s what SCE boss, Yoshida said to Edge in a recent interview. So according to Sony, that’s the reason the PSP Go, failed, not because it was a sucky console that didn’t really bring anything new to the table besides a sliding screen… because the world wasn’t ready for it….
Quote:“Wee believe, for some consumers, the time is [right], but for other consumers, the time is still not [right],”
Is what Yoshida told Edge in their interview.
Quote:“So wee believe the time is still not right to go download-only as a platform. Some PS Vita titles, like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, will be close to 4GB in size, which could be too large to download for consumers who do not have a fast broadband connection. Also, some consumers like shopping in retail stores, talking to knowledgeable store clerks, buying and playing games on the spot. Wee do not want to remove that capability from consumers,”
SCEE’s new president and CEO Jim Ryan also added his two cents:
Quote:“There are consumers in parts of the world – this is a global device – where the digital model has not yet fully been embraced.”
I think the other thing is, sure, having downloadable content is cool, fast, and easy… but there’s nothing that beats the feeling of actually having an actual disk/physical item in your hand. It makes you feel special. And you can’t share DLC like you can do your CD based games, lend it to a friend for a while or what ever. So while I think that there are advantages to having DLC, I like having something I can hold better. But what do you guys think? Let us know in the comments below!

RE: People aren’t ready for downloads only
Until ISPs stop capping people's downloads, physical media is going to stay.

^Pretty much this.
I like having the actual game in my hands.

RE: People aren’t ready for downloads only
I prefer digital media
because regardless of whether I can hold it or not
I can own it and it is there
and not only is it there, but it can be anywhere
I can appreciate it's ability to be there without being there
also
related
not only that
I like not having to keep track of physical media and put it in the drive
My computer doesn't even have a cd rom drive
If you can hold it physically, you can also lose it physically
Most companies you can buy digital games from can provide you with the data just about anywhere

That's illegal, or what the boofheads that "produce" the stuff want you to believe.
If they can force both you and your friend to buy a copy » $$$ for them.
If DLC is decently cheaper, I'd go for it. Game boxes tend to end up in closets, never to be seen again...

That's ridiculous. And even if that's true, IDGAF then. I don't pirate games, I don't "gameshare" with my friends, but if I or a friend, want to borrow a game from eachother then that is what wee will do. Only one of us is playing it at a time, and only one of us paid for it, so that's fair IMO. Hell, I'll just "sell" it to him for a couple of chips. Nothing illegal with that right?
Also... the other with with pysical media, is you can trade it in. Beat the game fast, then trade it in. Can't do that with DLC.

Heh, I don't "trade in" games as the games I pick out I keep forever, the games I buy, I love.
Anyone who buys a game, just to beat it, for trophies or poo poo and doesn't appreciate the game at all, should be ashamed of themselves.

I don't play games just for the trophies... but there are some games, that once you beat them, get the trophies, there's nothing really fun about the game any more. And then there are some games that you can play over and over and over and it never really gets boring.
Portal being one of those games that DOES get boring. After you beat portal, you beat the advanced levels, you don't really want to play it again. So why keep it when you can go get another game?

Mmm
Portal's a good example, simply cause the puzzles don't change and therefore there is no replay value unlike games with randomizes and stuff so I suppose, point taken.
+ rep for first person to prove me wrong in alooooong time~
