I remember heat builds up faster when playing with a UMD.
Why did Sony go with UMDs the first time. They absolutely had to have CD formats?

Unreal Engine 3 apparently looked like iPhone 4-level. They should be trying harder than that.

Optical media was significantly cheaper compared to flash at the time.
1GB MSPD cards in 2005/6 were like $140 each (yeah, MSPD not the cheapest, but you get the idea). 1.8GB UMD probably costs a few dollars at most, probably less than $1 when mass produced.
