Story and universe of discourse seem to remind me of Mai-HiME.
Except fewer monsters and more emphasis on harems, fan service and whatever.
The "evil guy" who controls the game/contest (some crazy man who always stands on a high tower) seems more absurd than the one who controls the Mai-HiME world :P
With quite a number of cliches, I think it does what it sets out to do.
3.5 stars

Finished the second season.

Was good in the middle, but the ending arc was so goddamn convenient I was sitting there going herp herp herp the whole time.  -1 to score for that, 7 to 6.

Also, I didn't get my Miya vs Karasuba fight I was hoping for :<.

So season 3, hah....

(24/11/2010 12:45 AM)Assassinator Wrote:  Finally finished Extra (Muv-Luv is comprised of Extra, Unlimited and Alternative).  Sumika and Meiya routes.

3hrs into Unlimited.  Seems more interesting than Extra so far, but according to others who finished the whole thing, this doesn't have Sumika (best part of Extra), and it doesn't have real BETA either (just talk).  So yeah.... :(

Finished all the routes in Extra now, no idea why I did that, since I was given warning that they sucked (well, Chizuru's route was alright, the other 2 were pretty boring).  Finished 2 routes in Unlimited.  Total combined length for both (assuming you do all the routes) is probably around 30-50hrs, depending on your reading speed.

Overall, Unlimited > Extra, imo.  While extra was pretty boring in the middle parts, Unlimited was almost never really boring.  The characters also improved in likability ranging from a bit to a lot.  Meiya wasn't annoying as hell (in fact, she's actually quite likable in Unlimited), and Takeru is still an indecisive bitch, but less so (at least he's sort of cool at the very very end).  However, Unlimited's ending wasn't exactly satisfying, and a lot of other stuff is still left hanging.  Also, a big wtf at the pilot suits...

Overall, Muv-Luv is probably around 7 for me (Extra is like 6, Unlimited is 7.5).  Decent but not excellent, but you know, this is compulsory reading and lead in for that, so whatever.

I doubt she'll do anything until the very end.

Well, this is supposed to be the end.  Didn't think there would be a 3rd season.

Episode 8 & 9: "not all that many episodes left, better start moving with the story already".
Episode 10: "3 episodes left, probably going to be some really shitty rushed ending".
Episode 11: "... or not going to end..."
Episode 12 & 13: "fuck, season 3"

Currently watching Baccano (high expectations) and Angel Beats (moderate expectations).  And finishing off Sharin no Kuni (finally) (high expectations).

Happiness!

Somewhat met my expectations.  Generic formula for this type of show - intro, filler middle section and story playing out in the end.
I had expected a certain story to be one of the episodes, as I thought it would be interesting.  Turns out, it was implemented into the OVA.

Oh, and Jun is awesome.
2.5 stars; 3 stars for OVA

This one started off okay, had some okay-ish ideas.  But it had some pretty poor parts in it too - IMO, the dramatic in this really didn't work well, and this show seems to degrade pretty quickly towards the end, with the last episode being really really poo poo.
I'll give it 3 stars for a reasonable start, though I didn't enjoy this that much.
3/5 ~ 6/10 << look like wee agree on this one Zinga.

Lots of places are pretty "uhhh... right", but I though it was decent overall.  Dunno, 7/10.

I thought the ending (episode 13) was sort of nice, and this is where I think watching all at once and watching an episode per week makes a difference.  Watching all at once carries the mood over from episode to episode.

Or maybe I'm getting soft from all the shitty anime I've been watching recently, so anything not so shitty becomes good....

Obviously when Key supervised their instruction they forgot about how perfect Kyoto Animation were in creating true, genuine scenes of meaning.. whereas Angel Beats is mostly empty and void of meaning.

Using emotion just makes stuff hit and miss.

Lol "how perfect Kyoto Animation were in creating true, genuine scenes of meaning".  Those scenes you spoke off should be at least 80% credited to the back story the anime is based on (that is, Clannad, Kanon, etc), rather than the animation studio.

That being said, Clannad better not disappoint me, because I plan on watching that soon, and I obviously expect a lot out of it, because everyone says it's so good and all...

(08/12/2010 05:34 PM)Assassinator Wrote:  Currently watching Baccano (high expectations)

This is non chronological story about mafia families, alchemists, and immortality.  And most importantly, batshit insane people being extremely awesome and killing stuff all over the place.

Was overall decent, but sort of fell short of expectations.  I was expecting it to blow me away, seeing how my sister said it's one of her favourite animes ever... well sadly, that didn't really happen.  7.5 probably.

Oh yeah, and the comedy couple (Isaac + Miria) piss me off no end.  I mean you're in the middle of an awesome scene where shit's happening, and suddenly, you swap to those two fools, and it's like, kung FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....

For some unknown reason, I also watched Queen's Blade.  As I expected, this has like no story, and is just a whole lot of fights and fanservice.  Some fights were good, but overall, the show's pretty mediocre.  5/10.

Finishing off Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto (aka. Someday's Dreamers) and then going on to Bakemonogatari.

Maybe also finish some old stuff that I've stalled for way too long (Shakugan no Shana, Sora Kakeru Shoujo).

Agreed - but Direction and Animation is handled by the studio in question, and they could have easily fudgeed it up... which I sadly do think pretty average studios like J.C.STAFF and others do too often to what are probably decent stories.

I trust in Kyoto Animation, MADHOUSE, Production I.G., ufotable and Ghibli. They don't often produce spoon (e.g. MADHOUSE will have to be excused for Highschool of the Dead, lol).

KyoAni have a pretty flawless record for hit anime right now.

im not big on watching over which production studios do what animes, but i think i seems to watch a few J.C. Staff productions and they're not bad. But of course not like KyoAni or MADHOUSE

Generally I don't even know what studio makes what unless others tell me about it.  Oh, except for Shaft, they make visually unique stuff that's easy to spot apart.

I don't think anyone expected them to produce something that would compete with Haruhi in fandom.

Especially keeping in mind K-on! consists of 4 volumes by Kakifly, of whom this is his/her first work. The whole thing must be amazing for Kakifly.

You don't see the studio logos in the OPs/EDs?
