Ah yes, doom. First game I ever recall playing. Being a kid, I used to get freaked out by the main character's face when he was low on health.

Watched a few episodes of Code Geass. Indeed interesting, but as said, it does have a number of questionable things:
Spoiler:
Lelouch, when stealing a mech, gets the pilot out but lets them run free afterwards - why not get rid of them? Letting them go makes things seem weird to the enemy.
Mechs are obviously very easy to pilot if he can do it with no training, interesting
I found it astounding how much he can predict actions, especially of people he doesn't know too well
I also find it interesting that such a powerful army/force are unable to track him when he escapes
Tapping mobile phones evidently never went across the writers' minds - I highly doubt the communications are scrambled
I don't see all the fuss with trying to beat Cornelia (maybe he just wants to "win"?) - if it was so easy to infiltrate the prince's headquarters, what's different about doing the same?
Probably more stuff I cbf listing
It's got a little bit of non-action/scheming plots, but they're rather minor and really just a bit of an aside (comical relief perhaps) to the main plotline.
But if you just go along with everything, it's quite entertaining.
English dubbing is reasonable good, but then, it's probably easier to dub than a number of other shows.

You're not supposed to nit pick stuff that much. Otherwise you'll never end up enjoying anything.
I mean, it does have quite a lot of plot holes (which is why it probably won't ever get 10 in my rating books), but Code Geass is known for it's plot being twisty and awesome (or as others put it, epic), not for being particularly solid or realistic.

Did he actually do anything significant in a mech? All I remember him doing in mechs is usually hiding at the back commanding people. And later on when he actually does something significant with a mech, it's pretty much the imba-ness of the mech rather than his skills. (Compare against lets say, Suzaku or Karen, who while also having good mechs, can take on opponents with similar hardware and win using skill).
It's mentioned/hinted to a few times in the story he's a shitty pilot. He pretty much always gets his donkey owned in combat (when not piloting a mech 10x more powerful than the opponent's, which has shields so strong he can just tank all attacks head on).
I don't see all the fuss with trying to beat Cornelia (maybe he just wants to "win"?) - if it was so easy to infiltrate the prince's headquarters, what's different about doing the same?
Don't remember that clearly anymore, but wasn't it Cornelia who was trying to get him, rather than the other way around?

Hardly trying actually. Just what pops up in my head whilst watching.

The mechs already are non-realistic. That's fine.

He does shoot and run at the beginning. Hardly skilful, but does seem to suggest it's easy to pilot one of those things. Not that that's a "hole" or anything, but rather surprising I'd say.
(23/11/2010 03:41 AM)Assassinator Wrote: As it is with Light in Death Note.
Hardly the same. Light predicts actions. Lelouch predicts all the little nuances of human behaviour, to the point he can time recordings. Overall actions can be predicted, I'd say, but predicting what someone will say (and when) seems a little amazing.

Resource intensive? Against a monarchical type structure like that, I hardly doubt it. Anything can be ordered by them. Just capture all mobile signals and get a bunch of people to analyse them.

Obviously they're trying to get each other. Cornelia is trying to draw him out, whilst he seems to be complying.

Yeah, happens to me too, but small things I usually just get over it and forget after a few days. Only remember the big things, and/or recurring things.

Don't know about that man, sounds :EFFORT:... I mean ALL the mobile signals...

Well, he's not exactly going to sit there hiding all his life right?
From I remembered, he wanted information about the past from Cornelia, and revenge if she's involved. Ultimately, he wants to get at Charles (his father), Cornelia is just a step in the staircase to that.

If you're the sole ruler of the place, it takes far less effort to get your advisers/managers/whatever to set up a group of people to go through mobile signals than to come up with strategies to win a battle...

No, but why he always has to win the battles to lure her out is a bit beyond me.
Surely he has the ability to do the same when not in battle?

I pretty much never listen to them. At most, skip to amusing and/or noteworthy spots and see what people have to say.

Finally finished Extra (Muv-Luv is comprised of Extra, Unlimited and Alternative). Sumika and Meiya routes. Other side character routes are supposedly extremely bad (according to Amaterasu Translations who translated it), so I probably cbf. Actually, I will try Chizuru's route just too see what they mean by "painfully bad", should take no more than 2-3hrs of effort anyway since the common parts are the same and fast forward is fast.
Pretty much just slice of life moe love comedy stuff. Was decent at the start, gets pretty boring in the middle, picks up again near the end. Overall, dunno, 7/10 or something like that. Protag is waytoodense. And also, NEEDZ MOAR BETA!
3hrs into Unlimited. Seems more interesting than Extra so far, but according to others who finished the whole thing, this doesn't have Sumika (best part of Extra), and it doesn't have real BETA either (just talk). So yeah.... :(

Japan has a lot of people yeah? Would take a lot more than a "group of people" to listen through every single phone call that was ever made.
Anyway, if you think that way all the time, most crime/mystery stories would be bullshit, because the same thing can be applied to all of them. Sure the governments probably aren't monarchies with absolute power in a lot of the other stories, however, considering the scale of a lot of what happens (eg. in Death Note, Light kills like many hundreds of people, without signs of stopping), they should do it anyway, monarchy or not.

Could be hard to get to her normally. Also, everyone knows beating her in battle (as opposed to assassinating her or something) would get you more supporters to join your cause.
But all that is just wishful thinking, and noone (besides for the creators) know why stuff are the way they are (if even they know themselves, and it' not just the first thing that came into their minds, which it very well may be), so it's pointless talking more about this.
Code Geass has lots of little problems, but fortunately, doesn't have massive plot problems like for example, Elfen Lied or Sola, do. Not that I've noticed anyway.
The bigger problem with Code Geass, at least to me, rather than small things like these, is the fact that later on, the story on a whole becomes too convenient. Especially the second season, which is why I personally like the first season better (even though pretty much everyone else likes the second season better).
Also, the shounen style power level bumping is annoying too.
Overall, I probably rate this above Death Note. But Death Note looses a lot of points in my book because it's second half (after the "major event that happens in the middle" to be spoiler free) gets really crappy, becomes very convenient too, and very unrealistic (realism is somewhat more important in Death Note than Code Geass, because of the setting and premise and all), and just less entertaining. First half of Death Note is better though.
First 10 or so episodes of Death Note = 9.5/10
First half of Death Note = 9/10
Second half of Death Note = 7/10
First season of Code Geass = 9/10
Second Season of Code Geass = 8/10

Sometimes.
Not that often.

That's why you be smart about it. Focus effort on times they were likely communicating (ie between the time Suzaku's trial being announced to the time that the procession was intercepted is a likely time that they'd be communicating). You don't need to listen to entire conversations, plus you can run the convos at faster speed.
Then you can also narrow down likely regions.
A group of people can go through a bunch of convos over a few days eventually.

Democracies do make it a lot harder yes.
And they do install taps in Death Note, though they've obviously been smart about it than doing it to everyone. Then again, they've only got about ~5 people investigating the case in total.
With Death Note, there's also no suggestion that the killer is actually communicating with anyone anyway, whereas in Code Geass, there's a rather high possibility.

Supporters is the only thing really, as I mentioned earlier.
If he could easily waltz into the prince's base in ep2 and kill him, I'm sure he'd have no trouble doing it to someone else.
Some things I do wonder about:
What happens if you use the power and say something like "you will obey any command I issue, forever"? Essentially permanent control? Since there doesn't appear to be a limit to how long the effect lasts... IDK if it drains one's energy or similar.
If the signal is optical, can it be recorded and transmitted?
Oh and the voice. In the dubbed version, both Zero and Lelouch have the same voice and it should be easy for one to tell they're the same. Surprising no-one can pick it up, especially his sister, who's possibly heard it over the TV (or maybe not, she does acknowledge the events going on).

After one such incident, they'd heighten their security. That guy was sort of a carefree playboyish type anyway. While Cornelia is all srsbsns, Charles... I hardly doubt it'll be easy to get the emperor, and Schnizel... is too good to let that happen to him.
And that's also in the middle of a loosing battle when everything's falling apart for them anyway, so security's probably sketchy at that time.
Wait, does Lelouche's Geass have a cooldown? I have the impression, no, but I can't remember clearly any more.

I wondered about that too back then I think. The order probably needs to be more specific, dunno lol. For some things, if you keep watching, it clarifies later, some thing not.

Zero has deeper voice I think? Or it could just be my impression. Can't remember any more.
