No, Fedora Core is like 3-4GB If I recall correctly, SuSE is like 3+GB, Ubuntu, have no idea...  Damn Small Linux, 50MB - it depends, as you see.

Assassinator Wrote:that's not going to work. if he knows enough about the registry to look in it, he probably knows that addware won't insert an entry called something like "BitCommet".
The adware could be called "BitComet".  I've heard about adware removers that are adware themselves.  Some adware will try to hide themselves as legit programs, so will insert registry entries into "legit" places.

Assassinator Wrote:They just don't like him downloading heaps of stuff probably. Like my parents don't like me downloading too much poo poo either, especially games and stuff.
Nah, he said his dad don't like torrents...

actually i have downloaded 2 Linuxs this month lol.
1st one was the Alternative Ubuntu that is needed for the full install of Ubuntu (but i need it for Wubi)
2nd one was Fedora's new LiveCD

both of those files were only 700MB each though....

I've just got to hope that he doesn't do anything other than checking emails and nothing rich-content so that the webpages aren't too noticeably slow. he usually visits NHL.com and watches highlights from the games that just went passed, but luckly the season is finished so he won't be going on it. so i just have to wait until Thursday then i should be fine.

LiveCDs - well being CDs will obviously be 700MB or less.

Full install of Fedora Core is WAY larger.

ben3gfc Wrote:right now my internet has slowed down to around 74kbps and it has really pissed me off. wee get billed monthly and during the first 7 days of this month June, i downloaded 3864MBs (something like 3.6GB) anyways after that, they changed their billing process so when i checked on the 9th, it said wee had no downloads so i thought "sweet i just had 3.6GB of free downloads :D". now here comes the problem, I'm on a 12GB down/up plan and so far i have done something like 8.5GB with still a week left. now the rule is that if you download over the 12GB limit, you pay no extra but your speed is slowed to 64kbps. somehow, Telstra has combined the two bills, the one from the start of the month, so that wee have somehow gone over our limit. dads going to probably kill me now that it has slowed down, so much that i may be eXx1l3d form the internet or the computer (because there isn't really anyone else who downloads lots in my family). i don't even know if my dad will have to pay for both bills. and i can't really tell my dad about this, he just has to find out or else he will know that i know his password for bigpond.com and i will get in big s.h.i.t.

so Telstra fcuk you

That's why I moved to Optus. That EXACT same situation happened to me when I was using Telstra last year. The only difference is that Sparker downloads quite a good amount too. 20GB isn't that fantastic bbut its better than the puny 10GB Telstra offered. The only problem is that Optus is 1000kbs slower =(

IMO the smaller ISP providers are better.

10gb is not really enough for me, even though I'm only on 256kbit/s. But my ISP is nice, and doesn't cut my speed unless the network is very busy, and that's never the case. So pretty much, I'm getting unlimited.

i agree, but i can't really choose which ISP I'm with because i can't really support myself as i am too young for a full-time job and i still have school :P
so I'll just live with Telstra for now :P

The problem is the only ISPs in my area are Optus and Telstra, so I'm pretty screwed in options there.

Go part time or casual - you don't need a full time :P

How old are you By the way?  15?  You should be able to earn like at least $50/week from a casual job, easily enough to pay for an ISP.

I know, I'm trying to get a Casual/part-time job but so far no-one has accepted and 2 are still pending....

I'm 15 on Monday by the way :D

when i do get a job eventually, i know i will have enough money. its just that first I'm saving for a new phone because mine is spoon (I'm thinking of the Nokia 6300) then I'm planning to get a new PC as seen in my "Notebook VS Desktop" Thread.
Then at the end of the year I'm going to Italy (more specifically, Milan) as an exchange student for about 6-8weeks and i need to save for that aswell (the spending money, not the flight charge :P). because last year i hosted an exchange student and this year I'm going to his house this time :D

one thing about paying for an ISP: what if one day i get fired or quit my part-time job (meaning i wouldn't earn anymore...), isn't there charges for leaving at a certain time?

by the way, update on dad finding out about the 64kb/s speeds: he has been on the internet including going on emails and viewing picture attachments today, and he doesn't seemed to have noticed anything because he hasn't spoken to me, so i don't think he could tell the difference :P
which is really good for me, now i have to just wait until Thursday or Saturday until my speeds go back up and i download games better :D
