RE: Console OR Emulation?
i usually prefer emulation, but only if it is is (nearly) 100% compatible (with the game in question), and the speed is (nearly) 100% (on the PSP), or more than 100% (on the PC).

On the PSP, I prefer emulation over console because its portable.
On the PC, I prefer emulation over console (sometimes) if there is the possibility to speed up above 100%, hack (as in cheat), or other nice features, and sometimes because of the controls or the screen size, e.g. with gba games i hate looking at a non-backlit tiny screen.

I prefer the console when the game is modern, e.g. PS2/NGC/XBOX and up, because these games are of high enough resolution to be worth playing on a TV and the controls are better on the console because of the analog inputs. Also, theres not much point in playing them on the PC...

RE: Console OR Emulation?
Being a non PSP user, can anyone give me an idea what emulation is like on PSP, like is it laggy? still have save states and all the features of PC emulation? Can it emulate n64 and PSX properly? At good speeds?

Cause quite a lot of people have commented on emulating stuff on the PSP, and I'm just interested in knowing.

RE: Console OR Emulation?
Actually, SNES - most games run fine; emulator is kinda a little buggy - well, it's only the savestate sound bug.

What about compatability?

RE: Console OR Emulation?
SNES is based off Snes9x.
GBA - well, there's one based off VBA, but it isn't very fast.  The full speed one's commpatibility...  IDK, alright I guess.
PSX is based on Sony's emulator - compatibility okay.

gpSP for GBA, is fully working and compatible with VBA as far as I know, and it even has a 'speed-up' function so you can go over 100% speed which is nice in boring games :P it has good key-mapping features as well.

Snes9x should have almost perfect compatibility. although they should've probably attempted to port Zsnes, as that has better speed, and equally good, if not better compatibility. (i think i read 99.8% or 99.98% compatibility some time ago from somewhere)

And Sony's emulator??? What do u mean by Sony's emulator... Sony would never release any emulator for their own console...

Anyways, how do they emulate the PSP at full speed anyways... That seems a bit surprising to me. Does it emulate it any good, i mean if u turn all the settings in ePSXe to minimum, then u can run it on a weaker computer, but it'll look horrible. How does PSX emulation actually look on the PSP?

Ok, if I'm not mistaken, gpSP is an emulator. So is VBA.

So how is one emulator compatible with another? That doesn't make sense.

ZSNES is written mostly in x86 ASM, so is very difficult to port at all.
Snes9x is written mostly in C++ so is much easier to port.

Yes they do :P  Like they made the PSX emulator for PS2.
They wanted people to buy PSX games from the PS3 store to use on the PSP.  The PSX emulator got hacked though, so now you can convert your own PSX images to be played on the PSP.

There's no quality settings.
PSP uses a MIPS CPU, just like the PSX, so the CPU instruction emulation layer doesn't have to be that complex, unlike a MIPS » x86 translation layer (used on PC).
Sony's emulator would be simple, obviously :P

Ok. I'm way too PC attuned. Never thought for a second about the consoles. I can understand why Sony would write an emulator of it's consoles for it's consoles. lol. The statement "Sony would never release any emulator for their own console." is referring to the PC.

Anyways, if Sony wrote it themselves, then it would have very good computability right?

Ahhh, now i can finally understand the other guy (forgot who) who said in another thread he bought a PSP to emulate the PSX.
