RE: Retro Games Week
I actually have a NES console, and about 10 or so cartridges.
And that's the only console I have, don't have any of the newer stuff, since I prefer PC, and there are some other reasons why a console won't work for me. (PC can emulate everything up to and including PS2 anyway).

my plan for monday will be hmmmmmmm yeah Ice Breaker :p
ps: play NES on a HDTV, hahahahahahaha
Better if you have a HD projector. Or just hijack a computer in a university lecture theater and let everyone enjoy the 8 bit goodness.
But, DUCK HUNT!!! I remember sticking the gun on the TV screen for that.

RE: Retro Games Week
You should play Nightshade.
Best dialogue in a NES game EVER.

you know what? i still wonder how does that game work, do they just randomly pop down a duck when you shoot or what?

You need the NES gun (physical device) for it to work. It just plugs in like a controller, but it's a gun.
Anyway, you just point it at a duck on the screen, pull trigger, and it dies.

Oh okay. I'm not that sure either, and somewhat wondering about that too.
There's a red light in the gun so it probably scans what you're pointing at and guesses whether you hit something or not from that... Maybe the pixels make up some hidden barcode type thing? Lol.

RE: Retro Games Week
Quote:When the trigger on the Zapper is pressed, the game causes the entire screen to become black for one frame. Then, on the next frame, the first target area is drawn in all white as the rest of the screen remains black. On the next frame, the next target area is drawn in white. The Zapper detects this change from low light to bright light, as well as which frame the change was detected. This is how the game knows which target has been hit.[7][8][9] After all target areas have been illuminated, the game returns to drawing graphics as usual. The whole process is almost imperceptible to the human eye.

RE: Retro Games Week
That's interesting, but considering the 50fps on PAL TVs (not even sure if all TVs in those days did 50fps or 25fps), such a change for a few frames, especially if there are a number of targets, should be fairly noticeable...
Interesting.
