RE: Heat issues....
it shouldnt just pull off like that unless you were using an extreme amount of force to pull it
the cpu's are pretty much always locked into a socket with a lever
and always make sure to heat up the cpu before removing the heatsink to allow the thermal paste easy removal from the cpu

There should be no thermal paste between the heat sink and the fan. I don't see why you'd need to even remove the heatsink to replace the fan. You are sure to get the fan of the same make for cheap. To replace the fan, you wouldn't even need to unlock the lever (though it would make it easier to replace), since the fan is attached to the the heatsink by screws.

Extra cooling and air circulation is never a bad thing, but if your CPU is overheating due to faulty CPU fan, then external cooling is of no use. Those external (refering to non-CPU) fans are good for good circulation which do lower the teperature of the components, but are not a replacement for the original cooling fans (of the CPU or the GPU).

Sadly true... it may effect a degree or two, but otherwise it COULD get worse if its the Thermal Paste dying off.

Rather than faulty, the correct way to put it would be not strong enough. If it was in fact faulty (ie doesn't work), your CPU would've died in 10 seconds. Do you have the stock AMD fan with a small square looking heatsink? That's the one I have. But since you're not overclocking or anything, the stock fan/heatsink should be fine. It's fine for me even though I am overclocking.
But err... your GPU is like burning...

Thermal past pretty much never dies. Will outlast all of your computer components.

RE: Heat issues....
well thermal paste does start to loose its effectiveness as time goes on
some people have to said to change it every 6 months to a year but no one does that unless they are changing HSF's >_>
SkyDX Wrote:Oh and Joe I didn't knew you where also here, how's it at -hacks nowadays? You are that Joe with the epic Haruhi sig right???
well stuff has changed there
I havnt had that sig in ages, I should bring it back for the lulz
