RE: POTW
much more sense...

Picture of the Moment

Simply, it would just occur when a minimum amount of entries have been met.

diego Wrote:No, also quality, composition, colors, DOF, light, with the correct exposure.

All of that help to make a good photo. Lets say you have 2 photos, one snapshot of a beautiful scene and another of just a dead flower on the road. The beautiful scene lets say is poorly taken (lets say under exposed + a little blurred, these are the most common mistakes I see in amateur photography.) while the dead flower on the road has a nice DOF (lets say the guy used a wide aperture of lets say like f/1.8 so you get really great depth, and lets say the colors are preserved, and perfectly exposed.

It also depends on the photographer, and if someone gets lucky and makes a great photo once and wins a months contest. So what? This is a friendly competition to show off our photography skills.

You misunderstand me, diego. I agree with that completely. I am talking about from the point of the POTW.  Something that may deeply move one person because they understand may not move another. And because of just how much that captures the scene, it may deserve to win, but will not because of how unknown it is the the majority of the population. Don't think that I don't understand that there are many other factors involved in making a great photo.  I am just saying a huge part of it, in my mind, would be ignored more than likely.  Then again, some may not notice just how great a picture is unless they understand a more esoteric side of the art of photography, with me being one of them.

I can just tell what looks good to me, but photographs I enjoy to see are usually small stories about a certain time in history, or about a certain circumstance that I may not understand.  It was really more of a thought than it was supposed to be the absolute conclusion of ANY argument.  Sorry if I misrepresented my thoughts or if I misunderstood you.

I see now, and I am with you but I also said.

I too enjoy the photographs that tell a story and have a background to them as well. There is no reason for us not to allow a background story to our entries as well.

It doesn't matter who wins IMO, it is just for the heck of it. If some people appreciate my pictures then GREAT if not it is fine with me, has happened in other forums and I do not blame them.

Awesome name, this may become a reality....

RE: POTW
I think 3 as a minimum BUT I say add a rule that lets say after 3 days of reaching 3 entries voting starts, I think this is good since it will give a chance for there to be MORE entries.

I guess like landscapes one time, another macro or lets say homeless people or night, or long exposure.
