RE: What's with games...
Well everyone pretty much has a phone these days, and it's not uncommon to have more than one. As for smartphones, IDK, but they're growing.
Of course, everyone has a PC too, and most likely are on the same platform, but phones are pretty much the hottest thing in tech to commoners at least.
I mean, like, how much of your time is spent during travel? Surely, for most people, they'd be spending more time on a PC or in front of a TV than playing games on a phone (assuming they preferred the former).
I personally don't really get phone games myself, and I don't consider myself an avid gamer or similar. Popular games like Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja I got bored of in a few minutes - I get that they're casual games, and good if you've only got like ~5 minutes free, but their popularity somewhat tells me that people may be playing them more seriously than that.
Perhaps they're just easy to get into, and provide enough entertainment for most people. Kinda like how kids will only watch kids' shows, and adults finding kids' shows too simplistic.

I can play NOVA 3 and Modern Combat on my Nexus fine. Plus, casual games like Gem Miner and Final Fantasy are great time killers.
Sometimes you just need something to do while you're waiting. Plus, I can use a PS3 controller and play my cellphone games on my TV and they still look outstanding :D

My phone is a basic nokia that I've had for years... It texts and calls, does what it's supposed to.
I refuse to get some top-notch phone that has a million capabilities simply because there is more to go wrong. I know several people that have recently got new phones, I've saved their number, and then can't get hold of them 2 weeks down the line because their phone died, crashed, bricked, etc.
You must know some pretty dumb people, because it's not an easy task to brick a smart phone unless you're trying to. And even if they brick (provided your bootloader is still in tact on Android), it's pretty simple to reflash the firmware.

I have a Kenwood Hi-fi system from around 10 years ago designed for music enthusiasts, and the main speakers are 300W a piece - sure, I can't take that on the train, but when I listen to music, I REALLY listen to music.
I have Bose sound cancellation buds with Dolby 5.1; 125 dB and 5 ohms. They sound pretty nice with my phone.

The cool thing about smart phones is that they allow you to remotely track their exact location. Some applications allow you to remotely sound an alarm, text you the pinpoint address of the phone, and even remotely brick the device. And who only uses their phone for EVERYTHING? In this day and age, if you don't have a TV, then you're probably homeless or about to die of old age. Also, they come with warranties.

Wiimote + BtStack. I can play games on my phone using a Wii Classic controller and Bluetooth.
You make some interesting points, but none of which convince me to buy a smartphone!
To be fair though, my first point about screwing a phone up was based on phones a little while back before proper 'smartphones'.
The second point about music, I actually meant people who walk around with a phone in their hand or pocket playing music with no earphones (ie, everyone can hear their dub-step poo poo via the original phone speakers) - I should've been clearer I guess.
Finally, do you really go to the trouble of playing phone games with a Wii remote?! How does the phone sit? Do you stand it up against a wall then sit 5 inches away, bashing the remote? Seems quite an effort to me, but then again, I don't know, well, anything about it lol. A pic please?
Maybe I am an old man when it comes to this! I like technology, don't get me wrong. I just don't like it all crammed into something that can fit in your pocket.

I still have a brick phone (with limited capability) but to compensate, I have an iPod touch to do whatever the phone is missing.
That way, if I lose the iPod, I still have a way of emergency calling or if I lose the phone, there's Skype or Facebook on the iPod to contact mah 'rents when I'm out.
