That's probably true. I think Sony changed the default "0x00000...0" code from the Pandora battery (which put older PSP models into service mode) and they changed it at hardware level in the later generation.

Or it's very possible they removed it entirely from the battery and implemented it on USB (given the initial stages the PSP Go was in around 2008-2009). The reason was probably so they had something that unbricked both 3k and Go.
