Only ever use VMs to test stuff / run/install dodgy applications, or stuff that won't work natively (damn Australian eTax reporting software that is still compiled as a 16-bit binary for some odd reason).
So VirtualBox makes more sense as it can run practically any OS.  Running it in seamless mode works quite well too.  For Linux, you may also be able to use Cygwin/X, though I haven't tried.
