RE: Mathieulh's opinion on piracy
Mr. Shizzy Wrote:mathieulh Wrote:Isos were allowed on Devhook or M33 because wee were set on a non restrictive policy, wee wanted to let people the choice to load isos for legit uses because:
1. UMDs have very bad load times.

Notice that wee never hacked the store so you could copy downloaded games out of it or the like.
If you people want to pirate, it is your responsibility but then don't complain when licencees stop releasing good games on the platform because of it. Of course I am not saying that piracy alone is the cause of the bad psp sales, but it does have its part to do with it (how insignificant it might seem compared to other causes such as second hand market or even bad marketing policies from SCE)
If you think the ps3 needs to be hacked, why won't YOU hack it ? (instead of pointlessly complaining.)
I would like people to have some more sense and see the for and against in here, developers also work to provide games and they also do have families to feed.
I believe that pirates also have their arguments but that does not make piracy right.
I also believe that the games prices are way to high especially in the EU, but there are other means to deal with that issue than to pirate all your games.
First of all, welcome to E.P. mathieulh. It is nice to have such a highly respected dev such as yourself visit our forums :)
I would like to take a moment to ask you a few questions.
1 - If you guys had such a strong anti piracy stance, but could clearly see the benefits of running games from memory stick, why didn't you implement some sort of protection that would only allow you to rip/play umds if you owned the disc?
2 - Are you guys all done? If you are I thank you for all you guys did to allow homebrew, and grassroots devs like my to be able to do some developing on the PSP It would be nice if you could give us a little hint, if you guys do got something cooking, even if you don't want to give away too much.
Also, I have 1 more question: Do you or DAX use any custom themes on your PSP? If so, what where a few of your favorites?
THANKS FOR READING
~Shizzy
1. Because wee believe in a free non restrictive approach and that adding such a protection would have gone against that policy.
2. As far as I am concerned I am done with the psp platform so far (though I happen to stumble to into it again from time to time.) I don't know what Alex wants to do next on psp or if he plans to come back, he officially did not left at least.
3. Not sure about Alex, but as far as I know wee don't use custom themes on our psps. (I am quite satisfied with the official one so far, though I have not been using my psp much lately)
