Here in the Philippines everything is cheap.
I can get a whole lunch for ~USD 1

That's right. 1 US Dollar.
In China, you can fairly easily get lunches for around US$0.50 or less...

That's what I am trying to say.
Food isn't expensive here. Actually when wee go abroad to the US or Europe. Wee find the food to be REALLY expensive.
Even at McDonalds.

Even at McDonald's? Here a McDonald's normal snack (a sandwich and a coke) is around 20 bucks... lol.

Yeah, MacDonalds is not always cheap.

In places like China (I know this from experience), MacDonalds is not like your "cheapest thing around" fastfood shop like in western countries. Western style places like MacDonalds are more expensive than lets say your native style noodle place. (think of these ramen stores you see in anime. That kind of thing = cheapest. Not MacDonalds.) In western countries, MacDonalds = native. Asian noodle/rice = foreign. Thus Macdonalds = cheaper. In Asia, it's the other way around.

I think they're just joking.
If you move to Japan, you'll also have to adopt a whole new culture...

I'm not saying they're serious about moving to Japan.

I'm just countering their argument about the US and everything always getting screwed. Because while they're screwed at some things, they're far better at others.
