Probably the entire reason why it's popular.  Many people agree.

cbf starting new thread.

Windows explorer's new interface:

Personally don't mind the ribbon here as I rarely use the toolbar anyway.  Well, I don't really use explorer, rather a custom file manager...

RE: Windows 8
hmmmmm, i hope that these large icons can be hidden. So that when you click on a ribbon the options pop out underneath.

RE: Windows 8
Not liking Windows 8 at all so far, everything ive seen looks really offputitng in terms of an OS...its a giant overhaul to the UI which really isn't needed

Hopefully the traditional UI will still be an option as well

RE: Windows 8
Quote:All versions of Windows 8 - whether used on a touchscreen device or not - will use the operating system's new Metro interface, which was first developed for Windows Phone 7 devices.
Quote:What's more, the company believes that every device should have a touchcreen. "The UI is the same UI, whether you use a mouse, keyboard or touch," said Jensen Harris, director of program management for the Windows Experience. "Every screen needs to be touch. A monitor without touch feels dead."
Quote:There will still be a place for traditional, desktop-style applications. These will run from the Windows 7-style Desktop, which now appears as an app on the Windows 8 Start Screen. "The Desktop is just another app that you can launch when you want to," said Harris. "There are no compromises. When you want a mouse and keyboard you can have it."

RE: Windows 8
The Ribbon UI isn't optional (at least in the betas). As far as I know MS is gonna go with the Metro UI like their phones.
