I think that if God does not exist, then the chances of alien life actually increases. However, if God does exist, I think the idea of multiple parallel universes increases, unless God is easily pleased with one race being "aware".

If there is a God, then my lesser mind concludes perhaps space was made to always give humans something to reach for.

If there IS any alien life, then it is either exponentially superior to us in every way (especially if it has the means to contact us), or it has evolved into some other, less intelligent species.

This leads to further thoughts, such as: can a planet that supports life, and eventually is inhabited by lifeforms NOT end up being taken over by raw intelligent creatures, or raw strength? I can't see there being a world where everything evolves to a point where all get along, without something's advantages leading to further evolution, to the point of dominating all other life (e.g. humans, dinosaurs).

Another thought... if the universe is as old (or infinitely old) as wee are led to believe, then isn't it also a reasonable assumption that another species came into being, evolved to the point wee are at (or something comparable), then disappeared due to any of countless of reasons?

Or, if the universe's existence is INFINITE then could it be possible that, at some point, an entire world went through the exact history ours did, similar to the idea that given a typewriter and enough time a group of monkeys will accidentally type out the entire works of Shakespeare.

But, then  again, what good does wondering if there is intelligent life do for us? Wee won't be able to find them for quite a while, and if they find us, wee will be at their mercy. Any amount of preparation wee do will all extraneous. Not to mention, alien life would have to have been searching galaxy to galaxy, system to system, planet to planet, to find us, AND they would have had to come across us in our species' short life-span of so many thousands of years. Wouldn't one be able to deduce that they either have already come across Earth, before wee were here, either ignored it, or ALREADY contributed in some way? Maybe they were a catalyst for some great change in the atmosphere, or for life starting here at all. Who knows? I just don't see us communicating within my lifetime.

Those are the kinds of things I think about all the time :o

Edit: something else I'd recently though about: If our "laws" state that matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, and if the universe truly is infinite, then that would mean there is an infinite amount of matter. Wouldn't that contradict our "law"? If you add anything or subtract anything from infinity, you get infinity. Thus, if this truly IS a law, then the universe must not be infinite. Or am I missing something here?

I believe aliens exist, but there's one thing about their 'existence' that makes me think...

If they really do exist, why don't they make contact with us? Wee as humans want nothing more than to discover another intelligent life-form, so why would the aliens avoid contact with us when they too probably want to discover us? There are probably billions upon billions of things wee can both learn and benefit from each other.

I think I believe in another Earth with other humans out there in a different galaxy more than the idea of 'aliens'.

There is a good chance there's intelligent life out there.

Pity I have no chance of meeting anything before I die, wee're well short of spacefaring tech.
