RE: Random Problem
Saw one similar to this recently at http://riddlenow.com/a78.htm , and even when I was told the answer, I was still confused XD

I always like a good riddle though :)

No, they paid $270 altogether, $250 in accomodation, and $20 in a 'tip'. That leaves $30, which was refunded

RE: Random Problem
Yeah, look like you guys got it.  Basically, you can't add the "effectively paid" amount with the tip.

Note, I don't have an official answer, just what I figured, so could be wrong...

RE: Random Problem
Amount they payed » 270
Amount they needed to pay » 250
Amount scammed off them » 270-250 = 20.

RE: Random Problem
The solution could be something to do with the fact that wee say the inhabitants of the room are paying $90, after refund. By my math, 250 split between three is $83.33. The total that each individual person was overcharged was $16.67. The clerk/teller/skimmer takes $6.67 from each person's share to make up his $20 'tip'.

...I'm not sure where I was going with this, but I sense that I'm close.
