And have you ever used more than 1 headphone jack at the same time?

Yes actually. It's good if you like to watch movies on trips or stream something through the laptops speakers.

Tetris999 Wrote:It may just be me, but when you think 2 usb ports will do the trick, it DOESN'T; as it's a major pain in the donkey when you find out you have a wireless mouse, usb external and wireless keyboard. Believe me, you need more than 2 USB ports; i guarantee it. The irony is that most NETBOOKS have 3 USB ports, it's funny how a 1400$ machine only has flipping two...

It's like a laptop... why the hell would you want a USB keyboard for it?

Simple, a low profile design which stores the laptop and uses an external monitor; thus eliminating a huge amount of space that is needed when you place the laptop on your desk just because you need to use it's keyboard and nothing else for this kind of setup.

Pretty sure you can compile x264 for Macs, ffmpeg too.  Don't know about you, but I'll use x264 over CUDA any day.  If you want a GUI, Handbrake's supposedly pretty good.

But yes, Windows is best for that kind of stuff.

Handbrake has it's share of problems, mine always seemed to be sketchy audio with transcodes.

But yes, ffmpeg can be compiled for the mac; but it's hard to use and more of a problem to set up than transcode.

So what, you want like 5 or something?  So you can 2 sets of speakers, 3 additional sets of headphones and 4 microphones at the same time?

You may have a point about 2 USB slots being not enough, but 1 mic and 1 headphone jack is really REALLY all you need.  And I've never seen a laptop with more than that anyway.

You're using quite an extreme exaggeration my friend, the macbook mic and headphone jack is fused into one slot. That means you can only insert a mic or headphone; not both, but since i didn't make that clear for you, I'll take that as my mistake.

This applies to the NEW macbooks though, my old one has them separated (thankfully)

RE: Macbook users...
Since its a Lappy, I will never use external keyboards and may use a mouse, if ever.

Also, I really doubt I will ever be transcoding on a large scale.

As for the mic/headphone jack.. that is kinda ok... I've never used a mic at all! And don't think I'll be sharing headphone jack with anyone.

Build quality of a macbook is the chief reason I'm interested in it. The second reason is that I've never used mac/macbooks ever.

What I also want to know: Is pirated stuff available for OSX? Like Office, PS CS4 etc... and how usable is Mac OSX?

Piracy is quite easy to come by for OS X if looking in the right places.

Ah ok, my bad then.  I thought you meant 1 of each headphone and mic.

Tetris999 Wrote:But yes, ffmpeg can be compiled for the mac; but it's hard to use and more of a problem to set up than transcode.

Yes, true, not the easiest nor the most convenient thing to use, especially for the average user unfamiliar with it.

Tetris999 Wrote:Handbrake has it's share of problems, mine always seemed to be sketchy audio with transcodes.

Don't know much about the problem and can't help you there, I never used a Mac before.  If all else fails, I guess you can always use ffmpeg (either to encode the audio directly, or pipe to some other encoder like neroaac).  But again, it's sort of inconvenient.

Yes it is...lol

And usability? All i can say is that you can't expect those gimmicky apps like PSP theme converters or such to be developed for mac os x.

It is very capable, but that conclusion is more left to you than i; I'm happy with it personally.

P.S. the OS is easily pirated and installed on machines; i mean...theres no genuine update check or serial number, you just need to have a mac.
