What wee are having here is classical clash of opinions. Traditionally, if someone rates something, others tend to accept that rating and look at the thing in that light. For instance, if a newbie to anime was to go through this list and saw that SS had rated Sayounara @ 10 and Elfen Lied at 8 (I know.. accept it for sake of discussion), they would assume that Sayounara is a better series, in fact flawless and that EL has some not so good stuff. So naturally, they would procede onto watching Sayounara 1st, and then the other A-List, before coming down to EL.

Another person is likely to wonder why did he rate it as such. He'll just go and watch the both and then decide his own rating and then argue here as to why he deviates from the original verdict.

It comes down to whether you want to have a personal opinion or an accepted opinion. Eventually, however, every person has a personal opinion. Sensei tends to like anime a lot and hardly finds any that are not so great. Zinga is the opposite.
