Lol. I don't see how this would be illegal, but it's certainly an interesting idea. Good for PR perhaps. Though the move can be considered as supporting piracy...
I dunno, but I think it kinda makes sense to me :)

Lol, an artist can do what they want with their art, how is this piracy if they do it themselves? They just want as many ppl as possible to hear their music (so they will go to concerts more)

Liquid Wrote:Because unless they recorded the music in their own studios, they don't own the copyright on those recordings. The songs still belong to them, but not the actual recorded performance.
I assume they don't really care about copyright, if they decided to distribute their works through torrents. I'm not too sure how copyrights work though - like MyBB, for example, is copyright although it's distributed freely (and open source)
I guess, with the vast number of people pirating, copyright doesn't really have that much meaning anyway, so...

RE: Artist posts music on The Pirate Bay
well trent has known for a while how he can market to the "internet community". everything he did with 42 entertainment leading up to year zero's release, now this release on the pirate bay, i think he's really banking on the power of forming a strong internet social group.
and, i think, for a long time he has owned his own studio and done most of all his release spoon since getting buttraped by TVT records. and since he pulled himself away from heroin.
i personally really like year zero. theres much less of what made me love NIN when i first got into it around the Downward Spiral (that heartful pain i identified with back when i was 13) and more of a sense of him just having fun with it, which i get into more nowadays anyways.
