I like my web history though :/
It links my searches made on my PC to my phone and vice versa.
I, for one, welcome our all powerful overlords. Wee all knew the day was coming.

If you've misunderstood, Google has had personalized searches for a long time now. It's just the last day to opt out of it if it doesn't suit your fancy.
I've actually found some of this ad stuff rather freaky. Have been browsing on a public computer with IE installed, no ad block, and you get served ads related to the stuff you've been browsing, on pages which are completely unrelated. For example, seeing ads for the Galaxy Nexus (even though I already have one, just reading about related stuff) on a financial news portal...
Anyway, I have no need for history being recorded and don't really like others poking into my privacy.

Actually I understood quite well. I spent the better part of 4 hours today going through every search I've made since 2009 deleting pages upon pages of searches I would no longer have seen. Topped out at right around 970 pages.

RE: Last day to tell Google to forget you
it's interesting to note that while my google account (youtube, gmail, whatever) is years old, it seems that i have never had this function enabled.
going to google.com/history just asks me to enable it o.o
