It seems that the game tries to detect the number you're writing from the direction of your strokes rather than what's shown on screen - if you try writing numbers with weird stroke ordering, you might see.

I'm guessing the guy draws the pictures in a certain order to trigger the game to think he's writing numbers.

I always have problems with games that read what you draw with the stylus.

I hate to sound like a whiny, jelous bitch, but that guy must be cheating.

It's irrelevant now that this thread is old as fudge, but that video was made with Tool Assistance. Tool Assisted Speed runs (TAS) are made to beat a game as fast as possible by exploiting glitches and performing feats that would be otherwise be impossible for a human player.
