I'm guessing the guy draws the pictures in a certain order to trigger the game to think he's writing numbers.

I always have problems with games that read what you draw with the stylus.
It's irrelevant now that this thread is old as fudge, but that video was made with Tool Assistance. Tool Assisted Speed runs (TAS) are made to beat a game as fast as possible by exploiting glitches and performing feats that would be otherwise be impossible for a human player.
