Was thinking that, but many shows are designed that you can pick it up from the second/third/etc series.
Plus Gunslinger Girl seems to have relatively higher exposure than most anime, so most anime fans have probably heard of it, so it could work...

the first season was nice, i have the box set!

BUT! i don't like dubs...
