From random thoughts:

4x Intel Xeon X7460 (around AU$8500 each from StaticIce)
Some >AU$1000 server mobo with 4 S771 CPU sockets
36x 4GB DDR3 Fully Buffered, ECC registered RAM
As many nVidia QuadroFX 5800's as you can fit on the board (around AU$5700 each from StaticIce)
Fill remaining PCIe slots with those expensive SATA/RAID expansion cards and plug in as many 256GB SSDs as you can
If there's PCI slots available, plug in something expensive (probably a high end sound card)
Have a few high end PSUs to power the thing.

Probably can add some other stuff - just what I had in mind.

I don't think these server boards will let you stick many graphics cards on, if at all. Based on their purpose, I don't think they would need any more than a crappy (integrated?) graphics solution. People don't buy 4x4 to play Crysis.

And depending on how many HDDs you can stick onto your extension cards, that's probably a better idea than the GPU anyway, since some of these SSDs can probably break 1k each.

There are boards for those professional 3D / movie studios which support heavy graphics processing.  Besides, you only need PCIe x16 slots.
SSDs are probably better if you can't get them into any PCIe x16 slots (I think you can though, but unsure).  You'll need at least one if the board doesn't have integrated graphics.
