Need suggestions/ looking for a NAS drive
As you may (or may not) know, i got a new laptop last week, the problem is that all my stuff is on my desktop, and moving 150+ GB of stuff with a 2GB flash drive is quite impossible...
so i was looking for a storage solution, and found that i can get myself a NAS drive, which would be very handy since i can connect to it through USB, RJ-45, and through the internet because of the FTP server that is included in most of them...
but wherever i looked for them, they're pretty expensive and idk what a good one should include.
So im looking for suggestions here of a good, feature rich NAS that its worth the money
oh, and i would like it to have 2 bays and RAID capabilities :D
It can be expensive, IF its really worth it
thanks in advance.

RE: Need suggestions/ looking for a NAS drive
Personally would have no idea, but do you know that laptop HDD casings are really cheap?
I just recently got one for AU$20. Basically, you stick your laptop HDD in it, and it hooks up to a USB port » copy everything through that.

i know of laptop casings, but it would be inconvenient to remove the laptop's HDD each time i want to do big file transfers (which i do a lot actually...)
i was looking for a NAS drive for two things:
1) data redundancy, i don't trust SATA drives, not since i lost 300GB of stuff because of one... many NAS drives allow RAID configurations...
2) The accessibility, since most of them include many USB and firewire ports, as well as the obvious network access and that most of them have built-in FTP servers which one can access from the internet... something useful since im on the go a lot...
However, i haven't looked for regular enclosures with RAID support (if any...)

RE: Need suggestions/ looking for a NAS drive
i would just use an RJ45 lead to link the two computers together and transfer everything over that. its not the easiest thing in the world to set up, but once its going its pretty fast.
ANECDOTE ALERT: i use my brothers computer as a backup device and he doesn't even know about it. his computer is on the other side of the house so i needed a very long RJ45 lead. now, me being a skint tightwad i couldn't buy one from a shop. i did however have a 1m one i 'borrowed' from school. so i cut it in two and used 2 lenghts of old phone wire to go between the two ends. RJ45 uses 8 wires and phones use 4, so i needed 2 lengths of phone wire. in the end i used 20 meters of phone wire, lots of solder, lots of knots and lots of insulating tape where i made the joins. it cost nothing and only took 1/2 an hour to do, and it works perfectly. now me and my spend hours playing unreal tournament against each other and i have gained an extra 160GB of storage space.
