Only anime with 1000+ episodes have them. Like Naruto for example.
Not neccessarily.
Code Geass and Da Capo (25+2 and 24 eps respectively) both have 2 recap episodes.

some anime its really ok also some recaps makes you look @ story line different and have different scene's,. there is so many aspects to a recap,.. and the use of a recap
1 thing is sure if a serie is short recaps can be very,........
some anime should have recaps!! but like Assassinator said,. its a tv thingy!!
V1 is not watching any anime lately,. goes to look 4 for an interesting anime,..

I don't usually mind flashbacks. Unless they use the same flashback over and over and over and over and over...

And now that I've watch anime that do have them, I have to say, they're a waste of time.
I suppose they were design for when anime is shown on TV so that if people suddenly get into the show during the middle or if someone misses an episode it helps those people understand the show better. But on DVD, the point seems redundant. EDIT: And it seems everyone has already said that.
By the way, I also do get sick of when the same flash back scene is shown over and over.

Nice Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmp.
Hate recaps. Still watch them (some include a bit of new content).
Hate filler episodes just as much. 12 episode anime does not need 6 episodes of filler (Characters introduced, Plot starts, filler filler filler, problem occurs, problem resolved, end).

By the way, at the time I was watching Super Dimensional Fortress Macross which had a recep episode with no new content and another shortly after, although that one was more of a memory recall with incorrect interpretations of what actually happened.
