keeping an old harddrive is dumb because you can get 750gb drives for $65 ... so there is no real savings.

now using the old harddrive as a data drive is fine, just get a new system drive because probably that old drive is IDE and waaaay slow compared to sata.
The only reason I want to keep the old drive is so I don't have to hassle myself transferring files especially when I have no real easy means of doing so.

Sure, but like SchmilK said, when youve got both a new and old one hooked up, an overnight transfer is painless. and you know youve got your data on a drive with more life. [and space]

Only $500 AUD from my work experience week as part of school <_<
$500 AUD is sure a lot to earn from work experience for 5 days now that I look at it.
