my socks love you guys <3
So... wee all agree Opera is the best desktop browser, right?

:D
Actually my socks are the best browser!
I bought some Apple socks for $270.  Who wants to buy them off me?
Do they do FaceTime?

FootTime?
No, but they pay dividends (free money!).  Is that good enough for you?
Oh, you also get voting rights and say over who governs Apple!

Goddamn flame bait.

Call it what you will, I am actually a bit tired of Chrome and wanted to hear of EP's experiences of other browsers. Being a objective was intentional to entice an argument regarding the benefits of each browser.

Assassinator Wrote:Ok... lets look at this one step at a time.

Fast as hell.  «-- as Sensei said, Opera is faster.

Which led me to look further into the new Opera beta. For me Chrome still remains faster, when opening it and browsing.

Call me a Chrome lover whatever, that's what I have concluded...

So you claim that 90% of people don't know what about:config is and how to use it.  I do not disagree with you on that.

But how much % of people do you think don't know about webkit and whatever the hell is better than firebug developers whatever tools, and don't know how to apply them to obtain noticable gain?  Try 99%?

Quite trollish language...

You're most likely right, I made the point only because I've been in the web design 'scene' quite a lot recently. A personal point that I admit doesn't really bring much to the debate.

Lets use your own words...

Yes lets...You assume I know nothing of User Experience so my point is merely opinion not fact...

That's supposed to be an advantage for Chrome now?  Everyone and their dog knows Firefox has a wider range of plugins.

It was meant to say Chrome is faster but still has plugins like FF, not as many but probably a few that you will use.

"lol So what? A very small issue.  And I bet 90% of users either don't give a poo poo about customization or don't know how, and the people who do know probably just followed a guide or some shit like that.  And both browsers are open source so both technically have all the theming you would ever want..."

Same point as above.

lol So what? A very small issue, GIF animations should die anyway...

Great argument there.

Great point there...

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on why GIF animations should be supported in future versions of browsers.

Maybe I was being a bit too strong. I find it interesting that you didn't just take you own advice of:

Assassinator Wrote:Lol, I like my browser, you like yours.  Leave it as that okay?

Why did you even reply?

Assassinator Wrote:No point trying to get people to agree with your "my opinion is better than yours".  Many people (including me) tried doing that 1.5 years ago.  Didn't work.

Slightly contradicting but...sorry Assassinator Whyowhy

Sorry I came across too opinionated.

Don't worry about it, I can't say I'm any better a lot of the times, so yeah, don't take it to heart.

Mc Cabe Wrote: [ -> ]Great point there...

Well, to my knowledge, the only animated image formats (that are at least somewhat supported) are currently animated GIF and animated PNG.

Animated PNGs do give better quality (as PNGs are lossless), but according to the animated PNG page on EP, a lot of browsers don't support it yet (including IE and Chrome, which together makes up a large browser market share).  But that was some time ago, so things could possibly have changed.

Anyway, even if animated PNGs are much superior (it's not completely the case, since filesizes are also to likely be much larger, see what zinga said here), and animated GIFs are to become replaced as the main way of displaying animated images, browsers would still need to be backwards compatible.  The same reason why video playes still need to support old formats like XviD and MP3, even ancient stuff like MPEG1 and 2, even though newer formats like H.264 and AAC are much much superior in every single aspect.  Even more so, because you can convert all your MP3s to M4As (AAC), but you can't convert all the animated GIFs on the internet to animated PNGs.

I would be happy if lets say, every XviD+MP3 AVI got replaced by a higher quality and smaller H.264+Vorbis MP4/MKV, but you know, old standards tend to stick for a long long time.
