Have backups of user folders.

Re-install OS
Install drivers
Install AV/Firewall
Copy over user folders
Tweak for performance
Tweak for visual pleasure
Install applications
CCleaner and Defrag
Anything else I forgot

Online bookmarks and passwords get added as I go along.

RE: So you havenew comp/ OS...
Generally...
  • Move everything off to external HDD.
  • Install OS onto now clean HDD.
  • Change the settings to my liking.
  • Install all the programs I commonly use.
  • Make sure everything works good, then it's a good time to make a backup/sysrestore point.
  • Move everything back from external HDD to main HDD.

RE: So you havenew comp/ OS...
Me:
1. Put new HDD in old comp
2. Partition & format drives appropriately
3. Copy across data onto dumping partition
4. Make a stripped copy of Windows and dump to external HDD
5. Take out HDD, put in new comp, install stripped Windows
6. Make sure Windows works properly, install drivers, change settings etc
7. Install applications and slowly migrate and clean out stuff which I dumped earlier
