XR-3 Hybrid: 225 mpg Electric/Diesel Available in May?
Quote There's a hybrid hoedown happening, with innovative ideas for efficient vehicles zipping around left and right, but this XR-3 Hybrid is different: It might actually find its way to the reality-based world as soon as two months from now. This diesel/electric hybrid is an odd-looking three-wheeler with a 40-mile range when it's running on just electricity, and an outlandish 225 miles per gallon when in hybrid mode.
Who cares if it's a bit unusual-looking, wee like its clamshell canopy and Back to the Future design. It's smart, too, with its two front wheels powered by that internal combustion engine, while that rear wheel is powered by an electric motor, which is designed to be used exclusively on short trips. But there's a catch.
You won't be able to buy one of these at your local car dealer. Designed as a plans-built vehicle, the company says body and chassis kits will be available after the plans are released, in May.
Pricing hasn't been set, but you'll have to be a fairly skilled craftsman to build one of these babies. Not to worry, though—if it actually performs as advertised, there will probably be plenty of willing and able car builders stepping in, offering to build you one for the right price.

Shocking Alarm Clock
Quote Wee've featured a bunch of alarm clocks over the years, but this one seems to be one that'll either wake you up fast or you'll smash it against the wall on the second day. On the surface it looks like a regular old school alarm clock, but when you reach over to shut it off it gives you an electric shock.
Wee used to sleep past all our classes in college, so something like this would have been great. Painful, but great. Oh, and don't bother using this if you have epilepsy or a pacemaker. They don't have a snooze button for death.

Titanic DNA Watch Made From Actual Titanic Parts
Quote Romain Jerome's Titanic DNA Watch doesn't just name itself after the movie—which wee still refuse to see—it's made out of actual steel from the ship. Along with that, the watch face is painted black out of coal recovered from the wreck, and parts of it are made from platinum and other metals they could salvage.
Wee're guessing a watch made out of parts of a sunken ship won't be "affordable," but what better way to time exactly when it is Kate Winslet gets topless than this baby? Oh wait, people have already done that for you.

Velocity Library (vLib) v1.5
Quote: Zettablade's back on the scene with a new version of his Velocity Library (vLib), a general purpose library for making games. vLib v1.5 is said to be faster and more efficient than previous versions, as well as allowing for the drawing of simple shapes to help you in making games of your very own.
Now, he lists a lot of different bits of documentation (wee count at least 10 different text files across the downloadable file's folders), so wee're definitely encouraging you to read through them, or at least check his readme file for additional information on how to install the application and use it. In the meantime, below are the listed features of the application. Enjoy your download, and have fun making games!
Features:
* Loads PNG images
* Load image into ram and vram
* Auto-swizzles images upon loading (makes for a much faster blit)
* Draw images
* Rotate images
* Crop images
* Draw an image from a specified center
* Unload images
* Enable/Disable linear filter
* Powerful input checking
* Functions for start and stop library and drawing

Use a keyboard on your PSP with piKey keyboard driver
Quote Fanjita and harleyg (of downgrader fame) have just finished piKey, a sophisticated homebrew application for the Sony PSP: it's a keyboard driver that lets you use almost any keyboard (or similar input device) as a natural method of input on your PSP.
For the rest, wee turn to the documentation included in the ZIP file.
Imagine being able to use your keyboard to control any PSP game or homebrew, and even the PSP's XMB menu and on-screen keyboard, automatically and without needing any changes to the other software. This is what piKey aims to give you. This is an early release, demonstrating just some of the possibilities. The open, extensible framework allows piKey to be extended with new plugins, to allow support for different types of input hardware, and different input environments on the PSP.
Use with Dark_Alex custom firmware. piKey runs best as a plugin for Dark_AleX's custom firmwares.
Use as a standalone by homebrew. piKey can also be run standalone by homebrew that needs to use keyboard input.
piKey comes with an "installer." The installer will ask you if you wish to copy the pikey prx to flash0 and if you want it to auto run in 1.50 game mode. Writing to flash0 will seriously damage or brick your PSP if you don't know what you're doing. BE SURE TO READ THE ENGLISH-LANGUAGE user_guide.html LOCATED IN THE docs FOLDER IN THE ZIP FILE if you don't like bricked PSPs.
piKey comes with the following plugins by default:
Input plugins
o IR - this plugin uses Monsti's IR keyboard library to support input via many different types of infra-red keyboards.
o SIO - this plugin supports input via Serial I/O cable. SIO cables plug into your PSP's headphone socket, to provide a serial interface. You can use the SIO plugin to simulate a keyboard via serial terminal, e.g. HyperTerminal on Windows. You can also use the SIO plugin to display debug information from other πKey plugins.
Output plugins
o CTRL - this plugin simulates presses of the PSP's buttons, mapping selected keys on the keyboard to different PSP buttons. For instance, the cursor keys simulate presses on the directional pad (D-pad).
o OSK - this plugin detects when the PSP's built-in On-Screen Keyboard is active, and translates key data from πKey into the necessary button presses to enter that text into the OSK.
The user_guide.html in the docs folder in the ZIP file has configuration, usage, and troubleshooting notes (in English). Thanks to Fanjita and harleyg for this amazing PSP homebrew application.

Robot Picks up the Dead or Dormant. Wait, Dormant??
Quote Among the robots Japan's been making to help their elderly population, this body remover is probably the scariest. Sure, the Gundam maid robot looks mean when serving you tea, but does it remove dead bodies? Wee don't think so.
And seriously, does is their population really dying at such a rate that Japan needs robots to clear dead bodies? And do they need them to pick up dormant bodies too?! Imagine the looks on those vagrants faces when they realize they're being shoved into a dark box with the recently and soon-to-be deceased.
It was first demonstrated about 13 years ago, so wee hope it has the dead/not-quite-dead distinction nailed by now.
