QJ Wrote:On this day of April, PSP homebrew coder Lucifer_V paid a visit to the QJ.Net Forums and announced an update to the PSP Theme Swapper homebrew. According to its readme, this application allows PSP users to "flash high-res backgrounds, icon sets, clicksound, volume bars, battery icons, fonts, and waves."
As compared to the past version, the following major tweaks were made:
*Firmware check added
*Fonts added
*Recover function added
*More available slots to save
*Better navigating in menu
*Bugs fixed
*Graphics added
Usage instructions and contact details (in case you experience any bugs) are available in the readme file which the dev has included. Wee highly recommend that you check that first before trying anything with Theme Swapper v1.0. Also, please take note that this application writes to flash, and has been made only for use with 3.03 oe-c. Further details can also be found over at Lucifer_V's forum release thread. Enjoy
Holyhead Secondary in Handsworth, Birmingham, is going to give its pupils PSPs to use during French, History and Geography. They will be used to play media such as video and pictures.
The students are not allowed to play games on them, but there is now way to check this so i guess they will be having a lot of fun. The experiment will start after easter. The teachers have had training to use the PSP, so that may explain some of the noobs lately that spoke perfect english.
I don't really understand the use of a psp, when a classroom also has a beamer, ohp and some sort of cd player. Also, they should have computers available for accessing the internet, and the internet on the PSP isn't all that great either. One teacher says:
"Some people think it is an exclusively a gaming machine and don't realise all the things it can do. It can access the Internet and process information."
wooo, it can access the internet and process information. its very clear that you have had training. what kind of information do you want it to process without using homebrew? I bet if the school and teachers knew about homebrew and put it to use to create some sort of educational software, the psp would be much more useful. They would be sued by sony though.
Oh well. Lets just hope wee meet one of these pupils and convince them to flash hehehehe :P
Quote:QJ reader aDcOoL informed us that the final release for version 4.109 of Winnydows' video-converting app, XviD4PSP, is out. As always, the developer notes that before installing the latest version of the app, you must purge the previous one first. Some parts of this changelog were already seen in his previous version release, but since this is the "final" version, a couple of other stuff have been added and fixed.

* Added [] symbols warning.
* Thumbnails now create for PMPPlayer Advance too.
* COPY audio stream now work for MKV too.
* Added FLV format output, Sorenson codec only.
* Added unlimited MPG output (any resolution, any framerate, high bitrate).
* For AVI and PMP audio encoding to AAC sound now with NeroAACEnc too.
* Audio bitrate change now more smooth - 8 kbit.

For this release, you'll be required to have Windows Vista or Windows XP SP2, Microsoft Framework 3.0, and DirectX Update-Check for you to install it on your PC. The developer reports that the program might not work well with your existing codec packs installed, and he recommends you install ffdshow only.
x3sphere Wrote:Sony has just released Firmware 3.30 for the PSP. The new update includes support for displaying thumbnails under RSS Channel, expanded support for PlayStation Notwork titles (PS1 games), an increased size limit for videos, support for displaying thumbnails for content saved in the VIDEO folder, and a new option to set the Disc-Load speed to Fast or Normal for PlayStation Notwork titles.
Of course, don't update if you'd like to continue running homebrew.
