MKV to psp
is there a freeware available to convert mkv files to playable video viles for the psp?

Note that you may need a DirectShow MKV splitter.
If the above doesn't work, see if the MKV file plays back in Windows Media Player.  If not, download the K-Lite Codec Pack and install that.

Don't use Linux, so IDK.  DirectShow (subset of DirectX) is a commonly used interface for video in Windows.  Most converters rely on DirectShow to decode video.

Dunno if a common interface exists in Linux, but converters with the splitter built in, such as ffmpeg and mencoder, should work fine.
