PSP2 (Rumor)
[Image: psp2coming.jpg]

And not only that, it looks like it's coming later this year. There have been rumors ever since the DS Lite hit that Sony was also planning a redesign of its portable. Some of those rumors have ground in reality, some of them are just wishful thinking. Nothing official has been announced, and Sony has shot down any chatter regarding a redesign saying it's not happening. With all this, PSP2 looks to be a pipe-dream — Like it's not happening.

Apparently, it is.

Various third party and highly placed sources state that the PSP2 is coming. Speculation is swirling around the industry, and third party publishers are hoping to tie their games to the PSP2 launch. Thing is, Sony has yet to pass along any information about when that will be. Meaning wee won't see big third party titles at launch.

Word has it that a big announcement will most likely hit at E3 with Sony unveiling the redesigned portable. An announcement of launch date (which should be sometime 4th quarter) is entirely possible as well. The redesigned product apparently does exist as this is what wee've heard so far:

    * The screen is gorgeous
    * The loads are faster
    * Improved buttons
    * Internal flash — 8GB
    * Possible touch-screen
    * Possible built-in camera
    * Uses UMD

The recent blockbuster success in Japan should prove that the PSP is anything but dead and deserving of a make-over. Stay tuned!

RE: PSP2 (Rumor)
* The screen is gorgeous « already is, no big deal
* The loads are faster « nice, but i would at least expect that
* Improved buttons « dual analog? better layout (HOLD BUTTON!!!!)
* Internal flash — 8GB « not enough, make that a 30gb harddrive or 16gb flash
* Possible touch-screen « no need, will only piss off existing psp pwners
* Possible built-in camera « its the least i would expect. and ffs, make ik a good one like from a cybershot camera (like the phones). at least 3.2mpixel
* Uses UMD « so?

I think it needs:

* bluetooth
* much better battery
* better non-game software (XMB) like MS Word
* better video support
* tv-out
* hold button moved and better overall button layout

if it has 5/6 of these i would think about it.

and what would be really nice as an extra:

* wifi-g
* 3G would be really cool
* interchangable color thingies
* built in gps (with software)
* USB host function built in (connect keyboard and mouse and USB drive etc)
* less noisy umd drive?
* still have MS pro duo support, not remove it because of built in flash or make it M2 so everyone can go get new cards

RE: PSP2 (Rumor)
^^ I'm with Ge64 on that but on a side note don't you all think maybe its too soon though i mean what's the average release dates for any console usually home console is like idk averaging all of them prolly like evry 5yrs and for a portable like every 3 yrs and psp isn't just any portable maybe they should make it last more time before releasing anything offficial if they do 2 e3

RE: PSP2 (Rumor)
I don't think it exists. The PSP is already struggling. I don't think Sony would shoot itself in the foot like that.

RE: PSP2 (Rumor)
ppl already have, that's the point :P and where do you think the 8gb flash comes from?

also, i don't think its a psp 2 more like a psp 1.1 or a psp lite.
Double post
by the way, psp struggling is poo poo imo. if you step into a metro here youll see at least 2 people with PSPs, often more.

Sony UK boss confirms smaller, lighter PSP in the works
QuoteAfter all the rumors and speculation, a Sony exec has finally gone on record to say that a redesigned version of Sony's PSP handheld is in the works.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, SCE UK managing director Ray Maguire told an invited audience of press, teachers and education specialists at the national launch of Sony's PSP in Education initiative that the current PSP is just the "first iteration", and that a "smaller, lighter" system will be introduced in the future.

Maguire also said that any redesigns would not affect the PSP's screen, which is apparently "fixed." Judging by Sony's track record of cutting the size and cost of their redesigned consoles since the PSOne was first introduced, a redesigned PSP could also presumably carry a lower price tag.

Following Maguire's statement, a Sony spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz that apart from firmware updates, no "immediate changes" are currently planned for the PSP. "In the longest term, of course wee are always looking at ways to continue our platform development," said the spokesperson, "and this normal business practice is what Ray was referring to."
