Microsoft’s antivirus deletes users’ e-mails
MPORTANT FOR USERS OF MICROSOFT ONECARE.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE

[frame]QuoteMicrosoft has admitted that its Live OneCare security suite has been accidentally deleting some users’ Outlook and Outlook Express e-mails.

According to postings on Microsoft’s OneCare forum, erasures have been caused when the antivirus programme finds a virus in an e-mail attachment. Instead of then quarantining that single e-mail, users have reported that entire .pst or .dbx files -— the personal folder where non-Exchange Server users’ messages and other details are kept -— have been quarantined or, in some cases, even deleted.

One user commented on the forum: “Is there a chance to recover it? If not, OneCare will have done more damage than any virus in my 30 years of active computing.

But be honest. Who uses Microsoft Outlook anyway?

RE: Microsoft’s antivirus deletes users’ e-mails
5x a year?!?!  Wow.  I don't reformat in like 3 years...  Only when I get a new comp - I have so much set up I can't be bothered re-doing everything.

Best thing - be smart and don't get viruses.  If a file looks dodgey (that's posted on a forum) let other people test it out first XD.
Also, download from respectable sites.

IMO, it's really hard to get a virus - I've never got one, only when I was actually actively searching for one...

I really need to use an email client, but since I rarely actually send email, I'm too lazy...

it isrly hard to get a virus unless ur a dumbass. i do tend to be careless though, browsing through crack and warez sites doesn't help protect you against malware (oh well, firefox does) i use gmail and I like the web based client so i don't have ms outcrap either.
