heres a tutorial to put animated videos in sigs but helps with making avatars also

note you need imageready also

the gimp 2.2 is fun to use but don't try running it with loads of fonts installed it freezes

True...

But in the new Gimp (2.4) it loads a lot faster (well not really in vista).

Download: (You need GTK+ To run The Gimp, so install that first)
