AMD plans to make new x86 cores along side ARM
AMD is making a new K12 architecture which has both ARM and x86 variants which run on the same socket (?).
Both architectures will be built from the ground up and have a 2016 release target. This follows the release of the final Bulldozer based CPU, Excavator, in around 2015.
Details are otherwise minimal at this point, though the article below says that they'll be targeting servers and lower power niches (so presumably not performance desktops?).

Could be interesting. Intel, on the other hand, probably won't be getting any faster over the next few generations, though wee don't really know their plans after Cannonlake (probably around 2017-2018).

RE: AMD plans to make new x86 cores along side ARM
From how I understand it, they are creating a socket that can use x86 or ARM chips. Still quite interesting, it'll give manufacturers more flexibility.
