Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

So I've been in a bit of an impasse with myself lately

I genuinely don't know what to do with my life,
or what I would genuinely like to do with my life

So without prying, and if it's okay with you (the reader) I would like to know what you do with your life
Why do you do it?
Do you want to do it, and if so, how did you come to realize that it was what you wanted to do?

I guess I'm just looking for a little inspiration or some sort of hint as to how I can figure out what I want to do through the dreams and realizations of others...

I supported and fixed windows workstations for enterprise and then small business, then back to enterprise for 21 years.

Now I support 85 Macs in the creative/catalog/photo department of this company.  I picked up 5 Apple certifications in the past 6 months and I am really enjoying it more than Windows.

Now I dread when I get called for Windows problems...especially cleaning virii..I used to like it, then it just got old 'run this scanner, run this scanner, look here and there...blah blah...' All these weird Mac problems I experience are much more boggling, but solveable looking at logs and spoon.

I'm also in charge of the 3 Mac servers and now 1 Windows server *used for sophos managed antivirus for the Macs* everyone else here wants nothing to do with Mac, so its all my territory :)

I really don't do anything with my life currently. Other than attending classes, I'm usually just home getting high and circle jerking the Internet. You see me on IRC all the time, so that should give you a good idea.

Oh boy this sounds like my territory!

What do I do with my life? At the moment, that's just doing whatever pops up into my head and I find interest in, I also have a coop job (which blows) but I do it so I can get a better job in the future.

The "why do you do it" is kinda hard to wrap my head around, so I'm going to assume that you mean: "why do I continue on living like this?" Well, I think I just want to get to a point where I can make and contribute something I can truly be proud of. To do that I have to live, to get that I need to work and when I get the free time I study things that I need to achieve my current aspirations. Pretty simple.

I mean it all depends on what you want to do. If you want to sit around all day watching tv and playing video games, find out how to support yourself so that you can follow those hobbies. It doesn't matter where you work or whatever since almost all paths lead to the same thing. You don't NEED to like your job, you don't NEED to have a fixed direction, you don't NEED to live life the ways others see it, you do what you THINK is best for you.

I don't think there's a single path that one just follows forever, some people can plan their whole lives out and stick with it (does anyone plan for death?). I can't, I just live in the moment with "what if" instead of "what will".

But hey, I'm a simpleton so, eh, whatever.

 p.s. I'm starting to absolutely hate the field of computer science at the moment, that's probably a blog post for another day...
