Intermissions in Movies
It seems that movies these days don't include them.
Granted, you may be watching on a DVD, streaming etc, which means you can stop/pause anywhere you want, but in a movie theatre, it's not a bad way to break up a super long movie for a toilet break.

Do you think that movies, in particular, longer ones, need intermission breaks?

RE: Intermissions in Movies
Over here in Canada, Indian films are gaining popularity in theaters. As is the norm, these movies tend to be long. Most movies have intermissions, but the theatre will just go to the next half. That kinda sucks. Intermissions are nice.

Indian movies? Really? I see none in any of the theaters around me :p

As for the Intermission Idea, It has its pros and cons. Sure you can go to the bathroom and not miss anything, but what if you didn't have to go? You'd just be waiting for I don't know how long. Plus: Bathroom Lineups.

Stand up and walk around?  I suppose there's cons to that, but sitting down for 2+ hours straight isn't exactly healthy either.
Intermissions could include a timer to indicate how long they are.

RE: Intermissions in Movies
they use to have intermissions because of limitations in film technology, specifically the length and weight of a film reel, as well as how long it would take to wind that reel, and especially how long it would take to swap that reel with the next  reel (they were usually pretty heavy) ...  As they moved on to using two projectors each preloaded with a reel, parts one and parts two in respective order, the need for intermissions died out...

RE: Intermissions in Movies
I saw a post from someone talking about it:

Quote:Used to work in a movie theater and researched this at one point. Intermissions were originally used so that film reels could be switched out, but obviously with better technology (especially digital projectors) intermissions weren't used for this purpose anymore. As prices have gone up to pay the studios, theaters have been trying to put more and more screenings of movies in the same amount of hours the theater is opened. Also, especially with rated R movies, little chocolates would probably use intermissions to see other movies.

I wouldn't mind theaters having intermissions again, everyone could go out and buy some popcorn or whatever, especially since how most theaters make most of their profit from that since stuios take major cut of the first few week's of a movie's ticket sales

O_o

Where do you live. I have not seen Indian movies in theaters. Fascinating.

I don't go to theaters that often anyway, but I think it sounds useful.
