Remembering September 11th
Quote:[Image: ribbon-black_68.png]

Ten years later

The events of September 11, 2001 changed the lives of so many people around the world.
In the years since that day, thoughtful online efforts have provided an outlet for grief, for
learning and a means for healing. Virtual spaces have helped us to remember the victims
and honor the courage of those who risked their lives to save others.

On this 10th anniversary, wee wanted to note a few of these virtual places:

9/11 Memorial
* On Monday September 12, the 9/11 Memorial will open to the public within the original footprint
of the twin towers. Our relationship with the 9/11 Memorial team dates back to 2009, when wee
collaborated to build their Make History site. This web archive lets people place and share their
photos and videos in geographical context, collectively piecing together the history that was
witnessed, one photo or video at a time.
* The 9/11 Memorial has also produced a commemorative album called Ten Years On, a musical
tribute featuring well-known musicians and performers. The album has inspired a video archive
project on YouTube of the same name which encourages people to submit video tributes to those
affected by the events of 9/11.

The New York Times

* YouTube also worked with The New York Times on a YouTube Channel featuring archived news
broadcasts and personal stories and reflections from the public.

Mountain Lakes (NJ) Volunteer Fire Department

* John Reilly, a software executive and Deputy Chief of the Mountain Lakes (NJ) Volunteer Fire
Department, built First-Responder to help community organizations like fire departments and EMS
corps increase their emergency preparedness and respond more effectively to crises. This open
source application uses freely available web tools to map critical resources and contingency plans,
dispatch and track first responders, and interoperate with mutual aid organizations during emergencies.

It’s been an honor to see these tools being built using our platforms and products—and humbling to see
them come to life.

Derp?  DERP?

Wee're talking about 9/11...one of the worst days in the history of the United States.  Thousands of innocent people lost their lives that day.  The world as wee knew it was changed forever.

And all you can say is 'derp'?

I think I just lost all respect for you, PB....

Yet a lot of innocent lives were lost in the Arab world including Palestine and nobody talks about that either, it's like they're not human at all. I do however respect the lives of innocent people who died in the US during the 11th of September.

You talk as if 9/11 is the only and worst tragedy in history. There's no remembrance day for the Battle of Antietam, in which there were 23,000 casualties, or the 1906 Earthquake, in which there were more than 3,000 casualties.  What about the Black Plague that killed about half of Europe? No remembrance day for that either. Not to mention all the lives lost as part of the aftermath of 9/11. No one cares to remember them, eh?

'If every disaster had a day, in many thousands of years, every day of the year wee will have a new day to "Never Forget." If wee honoured every person that died and made a grave for that person, every piece of land would have a grave on it.'

Why is it that fudgeing people today only care about what happened in their life time? One of the worst days in US history eh? Does 'US history' include only the past 10 years?

Sure, it was a horrible tragedy, but it's not something wee need to have a goddamn memorial for year after fudgeing year.

Also, I think PB was derping at the fact that TheDarknessArrives' post is completely illegible. Although that could just be my theme.

I'm gay.

Forgive me but 9/11 doesn't really appeal to me as an event to be remembered. When There others that are lost in history and no one pays them no honor nor respect.

.... damn my wireless spoon.

RE: Remembering September 11th
The death toll of 9/11 was just below 3000.

The amount of people killed in Afghanistan and Iraq tops nearly a million.

Both countries deserve their right to mourn but nobody sits and has their silence for people killed by American and British troops.

There gave been many many worse disasters in the history of time. Ust because you experience it doesn't make it worse.

No matter who, when or how, people have had their lives taken from them when they shouldn't have. If anything, I would rather mourn fir everybody rather than only the meagre percentage of all murdered people lost in 9/11.

Also I didn't know anything else was written below, so my derp was kinda for the what I thought was blank space, and the fact that in the long run becoming depressed on a yearly basis is the last thing those lost would want us to do.
